Moss Pleased With Defeat Of Freeze on Public Works The Utah Symphony has now announced guest soloists for the 1968-6concert series in Salt Lake City. In keeping with the Symphonys and Maestro Maurice Abravanels policy to book only the very best artists available the season promises to be a very exciting one. Eight prominent soloists are scheduled to appear in Salt Lake six of which will appear also in the Ogden series. Gary Graffman, world noted American pianist who was recently featured in a glowing Time Magazine article will make a return engagement with the Symphony. Another eminent pianist, Utah born Grant Johannesen, manytime soloist with Maestro Maurice Abravanel and the orchestra, has risen to international prominence in the concert world and was guest soloist in several of the concerts on the European tour and will be featured in four concerts in the Symphonys tour on the West Coast in June. Eileen Farrell, one of the worlds most colorful and popular sopranos, will also highlight one of the series concerts. Her voice has been described by music critics as the biggest and most beautiful instrument the Met has ever heard. She last appeared with the. Utah Symphony during the 1965-6- 6 season. Appearing jointly with Miss Farrell is the young tenor William Cochran, who appeared last season with Maureen Forrester in Das Lied von der Erde. He will sing the role of Siegmund in a concert version of the first act of Die Walkuere. Pianist Jerome Lowenthal, a new star in the music world, has appeared previously with Utah Symphony in both concerts and recordings. Moss of Utah said he was pleased the Senate voted to remove a freeze on all public works which had been added as part of an amendment to the Excise Tax Bill. A freeze on public works which would include such things as flood control programs, reclamation project and schools would have been disastrous to the state, he said. The freeze was added as part of an amendment calling for a 10 per cent sur tax and a $6 billion cut in federal spending. The measure further called for moratorium on all public works. The Senate first moved to modify the freeze to cover only new projects and to allow existing projects, to continue. If we now deprive ourselves of new starts in the field of public works, schools, flood control projects and all these other matters, we then have deprived ourselves, as a body of Congress, of determining where the cuts are to be made. 77 Came Violations Processed in Month A total of 77 Fish and Game violations were processed in the Utah courts during the month of March, according to the Division of Fish and Fame monthly arrest report. Net fines for the 77 cases were $1,148 with nearly one third of this months arrest being cases involving juveniles. Daggett County noted the most arrests this past month, most of which were fishing violations. Daggett County had 20 cases followed by 11 in .Box Elder and Davis counties.
