There are several waters open to year around fishing where the angler has a chance to try his luck at a different type of sport. Flaming Gorge doesn't always freeze over in Utah, but this year there is ice cover, on almost all of the reservoir and fishing here is nearly always rated as excellent. Bear Lake has its cisco season, and following this the whitefish move into the shallow water on the east side looking for the cisco spawn. With good ice cover on the lake, more anglers are taking advantage of this chance to jig for whitefish. Jigging should continue to be great fun for anyone through January and February at Bear Lake. Other waters such as Utah Lake, Mantua Reservoir, and Willard Bay should also provide opportunities for ice fishing throughout the winter. On these waters fishermen are taking rainbow trout, white bass, and occasionally a few walleyes. For those who cant take winter sitting in their living room there are plenty of places to go for a winter fishing trip, wheTrustee Warren H. The last firing in the Sparta program from Woomera, Australia, late last year brought to a close an undertaking successful not only as a scientific undertaking, but as a venture between Australia, the United States and Britain. While the Sparta program has been mostly tests the tenth and final launching reportedly was given to Austraia for orbiting a sateltri-parti- te ARPA-sponsore- d re-entr- y lite. The Sparta bird is as much an off the shelf arrangement as anything in this country's space efforts, with two of its three major propulsion units bearing made at Hercules a label. This season has been the busiest ever for the Symphony, which, when completed, will have .included concerts throughout the entire State, in Idaho, Nevada, and along the West Coast. Monticello was more than a first concert milestone. With a total population of only 1800, they hosted both a school and evening concert and filled the beautiful 700 capacity auditorium twice. High school students were bussed in from Blanding for the school concert. Symphony lovers from both Bland-in- g and Moab drove to Monticello for the evening concert. Maestro Abravanel and the orchestra were given two enthusiastic standing ovations which more than rewarded them for their 6:00 a.m. departure from Salt Lake City, for the long drive, and the rigors of two concerts that same day. Monticello is a shining example of what a community can do if it cares enough to make the effort. High School Principals Kenneth Topham and Carl Osborn, the San Juan School District, and Frank Milner, President' of Community Con-- , certs, were instrumental in making the concerts possible. In Price the following evening (January 20) a large audience also gave the orchestra a standing ovation. In the audience were 20 youth from the Job Corps, all except one of whom was attending a symphony concert for the first time.
