Lloyd Requests Halt Of N. Viet Trading Rep. Sherman P. Lloyd, member of the House Banking and Currency Committee, said this week, the least that nations friendly to the U.S. can do to help us fight the fight of the free world in Vietnam is to stop trading with North Vietnam. The Utah Republican made the statement during hearings before the House Banking and Currency Committee in reply to a statement by Harold Linder of the President and Export Import Bank, that the United States might lose up to $1 billion per year in business if it ceased to authorize loans to nations trading with North Vietnam. If the U.S. owned Export-Impor- t bank loses a little business through a requirement that we refuse loans to countries trading with the enemy, that is far better than losing more lives in a war in which our enemy is being supplied by our friends, he said. The Banking and Currency Committee began hearings on Senate amendments to legislation to extend the life and financial resources of the bank which promotes exports of U.S. products by making loans to foreign purchasers. At the same time, Rep. Lloyd highly praised the Export-Iso-call- ed m time.! Concert tours and stage productions on the West Coast preceded the call from the Theatre Guild in New York to take over for star, Alfred Drake, in the national company of Oklahoma!. So impressed with his work in Oklahoma Rodgers and Hammerstein decided to cast the handsome, virile baritone in the leading role in their new Carousel. Broadway - bound This New York opening for Raitt rocketed him into star status and he was again signed by MGM, this time at an astronomical salary. He hit another musical jackpot in The Pajama Game . . . playing 1,000 performances on Broadway and later he appeared in the movie version with Doris Day as his co-sta- r. Television audiences have seen him on all of the musical his own sumvariety shows mer variety show for Chevrolet and the memorable two hour special of Annie Get Your Gun with Mary Martin. The Utah Safety Council warns that the home from work drive, the hour from 4 to 6 p.m., account for the lions share of traffic accidents. It figures, too. Drivers are tired and the streets congested and nerves wear thin. So dont wind up your day at the rat race by trying to beat the other drivers home. Its a contest nobody can win, except by slowing down and using an extra measure of defensive driving during rush hours. What do you get? The right solution every time.
