Bureau. Sen. Frank E. Moss, a Commit- tee member, met recently with Commissioner designate Robert L. Bennett in Washington. Mr. Bennett was nominated recently by the President to take the' reins of the Bureau. He began his career in 1933 on the Ute reservation. During the five years he was in Utah Mr. Bennett served in various capacities with the Ute Tribal Council and as treasurer of three Indian live stock associations. He served in the U. S. Marin eCorps during World War II and in variouspo-sition- s in the BIA. Mr. Bennett and Sen. Moss found that they had several mutual acquaintances in Utah and other western states. Mr. Bennett, like Sen. Moss, is a lawyer. Sen. Moss said that There is much more to be accomplished . in Utah with regard to Indian affairs. The economic conditions affecting our Indian population leave much room for improvement. Only recently has the federal government taken a new interest in the American Indian and his many problems. I am confident that under Com. Bennett the Bureau of Indian Affairs will better the lives of Indians in the nation." Among other things, it replaces the supervision of the Army Reserve by. fulltime, Army professionals with part-tim- e personnel who participate only in weekly drills," the Utah Democrat charged. My immediate concern is what such a reorganization would do to our military posture. It is possible to recover from bad management over a period of time, but a wrong decision affecting national security could be irretrievable. - For living on a grand scale!
