Some of this punishment is administered by the courts, but the Department of Employment Security can also take punitive measures independent of court action through authority given to it by the law which created the department. What about these penalties for fraud? A court can impose a jail sentence up to 60 days. It can also levy a fine of $250. Between January and August, 1971, the Department of Employment Security referred 61 cases to county attorneys for fraud prosecution. As a result, individuals charged with fraud were either convicted or pleaded quilty in 60 of the 61 cases. Fines ranged from $25 to $150. Some individuals served jail sentences, others were placed on probation pendingpaymentof the fines, and repayment to the Department of Unemployment Benefits obtained by fraud. What can Employment Security do, in addition to seeking court action? It can disqualify a claimant for one full year. It can continue the disqualification beyond a year, or until all unemployment benefits gotten Park City Chamber of Commerce happily presents its Friday, January 21 During Day, Miss DuBonnet Downhill Wine Race. 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Spaghetti Dinner. 9 legitimate claimants. Poaching of Deer Shows Increase Cedar City -- Deer poaching is on the increase in southern Utah, according to Wildlife Law Officer Dali Winn, who said deep snows are forcing the herds off the mountains and onto lowlands of the state. Wildlife officers have extended law enforcement patrols to include the times of day and night when deer are most vulnerable to the hunting. Several violators already apprehended have received heavy fines and jail sentences from judges determined to discourage poaching. As deer concentrate at lower elevations in winter they become vulnerable to illegal hunting and harassment. 1p.m. Parade: Everyone and every group is encouraged to participate in creating a sculpture of snow on the old Main Street of Park City.
