We barely escaped being closed by a strike. My Lady Fair Louise asked me ihat we had planned for the Labor Day week end and I said absolutely nothing were going to just set and catch up on restin and she said thats what you think buster were going to tet out of here and away from that office and that phone or Im leaving. And 1 said good good to goodbye. So . . We drove to Wen-dor. In rain all the way, and slippery highway and huge trucks and fatal accidents all around us. But this Is wonder ve iul, she said. AT WENDOVER I won $1.75 and she won 13 cents. Dont ask me how you can win 13 cents on slot machines when the mearest penny machine Is In downtown Vegas. But she had the 13 cents to prove it. Very proud. (hi to Ely, still raining. And cold. We had taken nothing but l ot weather clothing for the Nevada desert. She even had she never shorts along-b- ut wore them so she didnt shock any natives. Ibere was the usual argu meat, at Ely, about which motel to Choose. She picked the one outside of town which had outdoor plumbing, to make her feel at home, and kerosene lamps and a phonograph. Managed to folk her out of that to save $L 6, but she Insisted on sleep- -, iny 13 hours to get her moneys! A couple of weeks ago Tribune columnist Dan Valentine, In an old reprinted column, wrote a bunch of 'daffy definitions. The North Summit 8th grade English class tried their hand these definitions. at I thought some of them were pretty good-- as good as Valentine in fact, so I am passing them on to you. Happiness Is . . . getting an A when you know you deserved Otherwise, you wait for Baker, which we did because It is on the map. Another mistake. Baker is on the map only, not on this earth. The dead-pa- n lady dealer at my tnir 'saved an the face-carfor me, especially when 1 needed 8 or 9, and my little wad vanished In 30 minutes. Meanwhile, naturally MLF hit the nickel Jackpot with her second nickel, and she Is still bragging. She says she does It by closing both eyes. Of this 400, about 175 were In- -, dlvlduals who were entering the labor force as full time workers for the first time, or those who are the labor force after periods of non --availability for work. One hundred eighty five persons were unemployed and filing for unemployment Insurance while the remaining 40 had worked for non-cored em- -, players and were not eligible for benefits. The unemployment ratio was 8J for the two counties. Individually, Summit had 12.8 ve unemployment and Wasatch 5.3. The difference In unemployment seems to be due, primarily, to the closing of the winter recreation areas in Summit County coupled with a lack of major construction work In the county this year.
