Security Asks Proof oi Age Nationally, about 45 percent of the people apply ingfor social security retirement benefits have a birth or baptismal certificate to prove their age. Here In the Coalville area, Ernest Roberts, representative of the Ogden Social Security office said the percentage is a little higher. While the best proof of your age, he noted, Is a birth or baptismal record recorded before your 5th birthday, other records can be used if neither of those documents is available. Mr. Roberts said he had seen some very unusual documents that have been used in establishing the sge of a beneficiary. One of the more unusual ones was a picture of a headstone over the grave of a claimant's deceased wife, on which the claimant's name and date of birth had been carved. Most people need not go to that extreme to establish their age, he said. There are a number of documents that may be readily available. Among these are school or church records, Federal census records, employers or unions records, fraternal organisation records, old Insurance policies, children's birth certificates, lmmlgratim records, and others, he said. If you are nearlng retirement age and do not have a record of your age, visit your social security representative to learn what documents you Will IKMfdt He will be at the City Hall in Coalville at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 to help you.
