Show a t Fashion provides a very Insecure basis for choosing home furnishings unless ones budget will permit frequent changes. Rather than focusing in high style fashion select furnishings according to the appropriateness of function, needs, and situation of your family. The main function of a home is to provide incentives and opportunities for maximum happiness, growth, and satisfying relationships, first with other family members and later with members of society in general. Good taste in home furnishings is defined as appropriateness to that function. It is the quality that enables one to choose from a large selection those items best suited to the familys particular needs, physically, aesthetically, and cost wise. Indoor-outdocarpeting is engineered from fiber to finished product for use in areas inside and outside the home, and should offer the following qualities for satisfaction in use. Moisture resistance: a dense pile of acrylic or polypropylene fibers or yarn loops resists moisture which may fall on top of the carpet. If the carpet is placed on a moist surface (concrete basement floor, outdoor patio,) the moisture will pass through to the outer surface without affecting the fiber or construction. Colorfastness: solution dyed fibers resist fading in sunlight and atmospheric gases since the color is locked into the fiber. Color is not lost to abrasion because it is evenly distributed throughout the fiber. Wear resistance: The construction of the carpet, the den- -, sity of the pile, length of die, type of fiber and resiliency, all "influence wearability. Spot and stain resistance: A hydrophobic fiber (polypropy-leu- e) does not absorb moisture, thus resists staining by common household spills. Most common water and oil .borne soil can be removed from both polypropylene and acrylic carpets with water and detergent or solvent, after to remove excess moisture. Oxygen free silos should be kept that way. Breather valves must be operating correctly, and all hatches and openings must be kept sealed as much as possible. Valentine Nuptials KAMA- S- This past week, men and equipment have been worklngat break-nespeed to get the Deer Valley snowmobile racing oval and starting gate in readiness for the running of the 1969 Golden Spike Snowmobile Races on January 18 and 19, Park City, Utah, to commemorate Park Citys Silver Mining Centennial. With the help of the Park City work crew and heavy equipment, much snow was moved to produce a half-mi- le racing oval where the competition will be run. It will be the only snowmobile race course which is placed in a natural bowl and allows spectators to be above the race course and out of the way of the machines and drivers. The two day affair is being sponsored by the newly organised Utah Snowmobile Association and receiving a helping hand from the Park City Chack Commerce. In a convention silo, explosions are less likely. The gasses might flash, but lack of confinement would probably reduce the danger. Material going in should not be below 50 moisture for the unsealed unit. Compaction and distribution should be as even as possible. Little is known about (he exact causes of explosions such as one reported in Lewiston, Pennsylvania. There, three firemen were killed and another seriously injured. They were working on the roof of a steel silo when it exploded, blowing the top into four pieces. A year earlier, a concrete sealed silo scheduled at 8 a.m. Saturday (January 18) with kids racing beginning at 9 a.m. All registration will be held at the Deer Valley race track. We have to guess that air Uaicaga into an oxygen free silo Is necessary for heating and combustion of the silage to take place. There have been several fires In low moisture grass silage In conventional silos where air leakage into the silage mass allowed spontaneous combustion to start. Three things are needed for an explosion; 1, a collection of combustible gas, 2, material hot enough to provide ignition, and 3, addition of enough air to mafca the gas an explosive. In the explosion mentioned above, It Is theorised that the silage material was glowing hot, charring and burning with sufficient oxygen for complete combustion. This could produce a large volume of carbon moooxlde. Carbon monoxide when mixed with air at the rate of 12 - 74 CO. The glowing .material would provide enough for ignition.
