THE SUMMIT COUNTY BEE students individual differences feels will give a greater opportunity for all. "Proposal No. 2 recognizes that English and Math are the two most important subjects requiring remedial and excel-ln- g work. Therefore, special individual attention will be presented only in these two areas. This means the students needing help in these two areas, will get it. They will no longer sit idle during class while the discussions go over their heads. The students who are excellng in these areas will be allowed to take on extra work and advance at their own speed. Different textbooks will be used in each class so no comparisons can be made as to speed or advancement of the individual classes. theme who The "class sit-in- ", are thoroughly bored with the ' class-woand are apontentlal drop-ou- t, can be given a chance with this new program according to its founders. According to Mr. Morris, only 24 of Utahs high school graduates will receive a college degree. The other 78 will miter a service occupation, a semiskilled field, a skilled area or a field of technology. What are our high schools offering these students? How does North Summit stand? In questioning Principal Sterling .Larsen about the type of curriculum which is being provided in North Summit, he explained they are not lagging behind other schools in providing for a change. Plans are te the now being made to curriculum to give every student an equal chance. He has suggested the "three-trac- k program which is being used in Morgan, Wasatch and many of the Wasatch Front schools very successfully. In discussing the program, the parents brought out their opposition to the program which included the psychological effect on those students set apart for extra Instruction. They felt this was too discouraging to the student and feat feelings and personality would be Impaired by associating him with remedial work. It was also brought out that, since all children do not have equal learning abilities, class instruction based on the average student is greatly hampering the student who excels and the student needing extra help.
