Show I Summit Cousins Meet on Carrier Happenings at Heneier It was moving day Friday for Mr. and Mrs. Gene Frodsham as they moved from Henefer to Hoytsvllle. Tim, NaynaandNlel were kept busy as their older brothers Joe and Gene are working at Glacier National Park this summer and Lee is visiting in California at the present time with friends. Alta and Ralph Garrett, Ray, David, Debbie and Denise of Salt Lake spent the weekend in Henefer visiting with Johnny and Elaine Paskett. They left their trailer in Henefer and planned to return Tuesday evening and spend the 24th in Hene- Tweed Retires It wu reunion time on the Carrier Shangri La re cently when two first cousins got together. To commemorate the United States Sixth Fleets 20th anniversary in the Mediterranean, this carrier and the attack aircraft carrier USS Independence (CVA 62) operated together for a short time. This provided an wcoiit opportunity for Aviation Structural Mechanic Third Class Michael K. Day and Lt. Larry J. Vernon to arrange a family reunion. The men are first cousins.' Petty Officer Day is the grandson of Mrs. Mary Weston of Kamas, Utah and Lt. Vernon USS 13 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay S. Vernon of Coalville, UTAH. Petty Officer Day is a mech- anic attached to Attack Squadron 95 (VA 95) aboard the USS Shangri La and Lt. Vernon is attached to Attack Squardron 76 (VA 76) aboard the USS Independence. Both squardrons ere Jet equipped with the versatile Douglas manufactured A-- Sky hawk. 4 It Is Interesting to note that a similar meeting between these men took place in the Philip, pine Islands while they were serving in the Viet Nam theater two years ago. Tom Chappell and Tammy Roath Head Western Stan Junior Posse fer. Tuesday night both families planned to attend the Battle of the Bands in Park City as the Amboy ds will be participating in the show. The Garretts report their son, Reggie, is well and enjoying his mission in Scotland Cathy, Shaunna and Lee Ann Warr of Salt Lake are keeping Sam and Irene Rowser on their toes this week as they vacation with their grandparents. One hundred and nine direct descendants of Heber C. and Lulu Stephens met in a family reunion July 21st at the Lions Lodge in Morgan. Those who attended from out of the state were Dale Stephens and his family from Arizona. Dale is the son of Edna and the late Calvin Stephens. Coming from California were Helen Woods and her family. Helen is the daughter of Ferol and Lawrence Newman. The young children enjoyed games and races while the older kids pitched horseshoes, played volleyball or Just visited. They all enjoyed the delicious food prepared by all the families and served smorgosborg style. Saturday, July 20th a chartered Lewis Brothers bus arrived at the DUP cabin in Henefer. The nearly forty men and women were from the MillcreekSth Ward in Salt Lake and were going over the pioneer traiLThey enjoyed the tour of the cabin conducted by Irene Rowser and Wanda Matue and were particularly Interested in the old pump organ, the sewing machine which came into the valley in 1871, the tobacco cutter and the cork screw. Mr. Bill Esmeyer gave a brief history of Henefer to the group before they boarded their bus to continue over Big Mou- from U.P. after 33 Years den Tweed took his retirement on his 65th birthday, July 1, after 33 years with the Union Pacific Railroad. At the time of his retirement he was a B A B paint foreman andhas worked in Wyoming and Utah. Both Mr. and Mrs. Tweed are from Lander, Wyoming originally and they lived for five years in Atlantic City, Wyo. Atlantic City, for some years a ghost town, has now been broken up into lots for summer homes and is a thriving seasonal community. They purchased a home in Henefer in 1943 which has been their "home base although they spent some time in other places (hiring that time. They have six children: Gordon, married to the former Margaret Faddis, a Captain in the National Guard and the parents of one little daughter. Margaret and Gordon live in Salt Lake. Margery, married to Bill Steiner, a Bank Manager in Vacaville, Calif. They are the parents of two daughters. James, married to Barbara Riley who Is a computer operator at Hill Field. They are the Officers of thp Western Stars Junior Posse are, from left: Blair Blonquist, assistant drillmaster; Tom Chappell, drillmaster; Tammy Roath, drillmistress, and Vnuna Dee Vernon, assistant drillmistress. Tom Chappell and Tammy Roath were elected er ss and of the Western Stars Junior Posse for the coming season with Vauna Dee Vernon and Blair Blonquist as their assistants. The Posse will be playing host to other young riders in the county Friday, August 2 drill-mast- drill-mistre- Heroic Role for Leo Page - FRANCIS Our own Leo Page of Francis deserved a pat on the back. His alertness saved the life of 15 year old Gloria Apod-ac- o of Riverton, Wyo. who was thrown from her horse, while crossing UJB. Highway 26. Leo witnessed the accident from his rear view mlrrow and brought the big semi truck to a halt only inches from the girls head. Miss Apodaca was rushed to Memorial Hospital, Riverton, where it was disclosed she was suffering from a brain concussion. The horses leg was broken and the horse had to be disposed of. Leo is still intact but somewhat shaken up. Pink and Blue Mrs. Donna Ottoson has Just returned from Vernal when she has been Chief at her son's home while Terry was in the hospital. Terry presented Chris with a darling little daughter on July 12 at the Vernal hospital. The little miss weighed 6 lbs. 5 ozs. and will answer to the name Christie Ann Otto sen. She has a little brother waiting at home, Nathan, who is two yean old. Joyce and Elwin Rees an mighty proud of their little boy born July 17 in the Summit County Hospital. The little man weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces and as yet hasnt been named. He has three older sisters, Susie 13, Bnnda 10 and Jeanie 5 as well as grandpannts Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees of Coalville and Mrs. Ethelyn Pack of Kamas to welcome him. at 12:00 by sponsoring a Show-de- -0 as part of the Fair. The show, which will be held in the Rodeo Grounds will Include barrel racing, pole bending; goat tying for girls, and races with age divisions at 13. Then will also be a pee-w- ee class for youngsters with Shetlands in all contests. This is open to all children, and they an urged to take part in this show. Chappell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Deraid Chappell, Tammy the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Roath, Vauna Dee the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dee Vernon and Blair the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Blonquist. The group also took part in the Fiesta Days celebration by riding as a group. This riding dub, one of the largest in the state of its kind, attracts plenty of attention wherever it appears. primary organization presented The Friend Festival Childrens Wednesday evening, July 17 with all the Primary children participating. Everything from clowns to cooks took part on the program which showed Just what nice things are found in the Childrens Friend magazine. Punch and cookies were served at the conclusion with the cookies being made from recipes found in the magazine. Stake visitors present were Mrs. Velma Judd, Mrs. Lyle Brown and Mrs. Wanda Spriggs. CARD OF THANKS I Gene Jones were Mr. and Mrs. Carl St re iff and their two girls, Marion and Chris, of Ann Arbor, Mich. These people became acquainted with Elder Allan Jones who was serving an LDS mission in that area and stopped to visit with the Jones' as they vacationed in the West. (This Week) Keith and Nadine Calderwood attended Sunday School in Henefer and visited with friends. They are visiting with Keiths parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Calderwood in West Weber and with relatives in the area from their home in Alaska. Anchorage, Mrs. Lola Staley of Hoyts-vill-e, Mrs. Geraldine Ercan-brac- k, Ogden; Mrs. Arvilla Fawcett, Henefer and Mrs. Mar Gene Durrani of Portland, Oregon all former classmates visited together Thursday afternoon and enjoyed dinner at the Spring Chicken Inn. Mar-Ge- ne and her three daughters had been visiting in Hoytsvllle with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Parley Brown, so before returning to Oregon the former classmates decided to enjoy es the afternoon together. husband, Harold Durrant returned to Oregon last weekend after visiting with his parents, Vera and Dick Durrant in Morgan. Paul, Mark and Diane Seare of Brigham City spent the weekend visiting in Henefer with their grandparents, Gladys and LaVern Dearden. They returned to their home Sunday with their grandparents, Alvin Dearden and Blaine and Lupe Dearthey all enjoyed dinner den, with Joyce and Roswell honoring the family members who had observed birthdays recently. Things are pretty quiet around the home of Blaine and Alice Moore with Johnny working this summer for Deseret Livestock Co. In Skull Valley and Woodruff andRobby Is visiting In Phoenix, Arizona for two weeks at the home of his brother, Roy and Lorna Bagley Moore. Of course, things were pretty lively a week ago Sunday for Alice had a family dinner while her brother, Don Ander- Mar-Gen- ton, and his family were here from Seattle with Mrs. Chelty Anderton and Donna and Quinn Murray and family of Ogden enjoying the cook-otogether. Last Friday, Blaine and Alice, Robby and Ricky and Chelty Anderton were dinner guests in Salt Lake at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Bag-le- y where they visited with their son, Roy, who was in Salt Lake on business and was waiting for time to catch his plane back to Phoenix. Doug Fnskett left Sunday for Woodruff where he will work for Deseret Livestock Co. Kim Anderton of Seattle, Wash, remained in Henefer when her parents returned home, and is staying with her grandmother, Mrs. Hazel Boyer. Hazel has also had her great granddaughter, Lori Coombs of Salt Lake visiting with her for ten days. Lori returned home Sunday with her parents, Gilbert and JerriAnn, but her brother, Troy, remained for a vacation. Things are generally quite peaceful and quiet around Susie Church's home, but that wasnt the case a week ago Sunday for they had a family reunion. Susies daughter, Thella Scalza and sons, Dennis and Nicholas have been visiting from their home in Endicott, New York and Pauline Martin came to see her sister and mother from her home in Olympia, Washington. Tills was the first time In twelve years that these two sisters have seen one another. Then for the reunion on Sunday they were Joined by Ray Cooper, Sharon Painter, Wayne and Dora Richina and Janet, Colleen Richins, Dale Hancock, and Jerry and Dee Aim Richins and Clndee all of Ogden. Glade and Ruth Wells, Raeone and Kenneth Francis of Willard; Dim and Linda Francis, Scott, Troy and Blaine, and Michael and Diana Robison, Glade and Travis of Salt Lake. Carl and Marilyn Francis, Ernie and Patricia of Battle Mt., Nevada and Rex and Ida Mae Francis Ralph, John, Ray and Steve of Roy. Visitors who ut ( called later in the afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. George Rogers, Ogden; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kirkpatrick and family, Ainsworth, Nebraska and Mrs. Able Tyser and daughter, Pal, of Malad, Idaho. Friday morning the H class taught by Mrs. Connie W. Car4-- ter and Alyce Porter of Morgan drove to Henefer where they Joined the clubs in Henefer taught by Mrs. Nancy Richins and Mrs. Arvilla Fawcett and they went to Salt Lake to the Primary Childrens Hospital where they delivered some items they had made for the children to play with. Kaye Savage, another granddaughter, and her girls of Salt Lake were also visitors as was Marguerites son, Scott, and his family of Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Taylor and Jeneane and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Llllenthal enjoyed several days last week vacationing in Yellowstone National Our best wishes to the Tweeds for a very happy retirement. Henefer Church The parents of five children. Virginia, who served in the Marines, Is married to Robert Howe and they have two daughters. Virginia haa returned to college to continue her education. The Tweeds have purchased a new travel trailer and plan to give lt lots of use, enjoying as much traveling as they can.
