How better can we start the New Year than by meditating upon the significance of His life? He never wrote a book, but more literature has been written about Him than any other person. He was not an artist nor an architect, but both of these arts achieved their finest expression in the effort of men to honor Him. He was not a physician, but He healed the bodies and souls of more men and women than the greatest of our physicians. He has rightly been termed, The Great Physician. He was not a king, a president, a dictator, nor an official of any government, but He accomplished more for the promotion of happiness, the assuaging of sorrow and the promotion of justice and than any ruler or governwell-bein- g ment in all human history. He wrote no songs, but He became the theme of thousands of songs and choruses that have come ringing down the centuries and have spread hope and good will around the world. . He never commanded an army, but more volunteers enlisted under His banner than any other. No tyrant could control Him, Satan failed to seduce Him and death could not conquer Him. The grave failed to hold Him. No wonder His birth divided the centuries and His Name stands above all others. With the coming of Jesus, the only force that could blot Continued On Page 4 ThC (DTTlXl j Utah's Largest and Subscription Weekly 2459 Major Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84115 Fastest-Growin- I The i Name Address L g UTAH INDEPENDENT 1 . r CHRIST. CHRISTMAS AND LIBERTY As Christmas approaches, it is particularly appropriate that we turn our thoughts to the source of our liberties. Our the liberty that we have enjoyed has been guaranteed by Constitution of the United States, one of the greatest documents ever struck by the hand of man. But it was more than the hand of man that brought the Constitution into reality. The framers of that document, wise as they were, relied not on their own wisdom alone to accomplish their task. They used as their guidelines the Ten Commandments and the admonitions of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Constitution, having as its foundation the teachings of Christ, has resulted in the greatest liberty and prosperity ever known by man on this earth. In contrast, the major portion of the rest of the world has groaned in darkness and slavery. The reason? Their rulers have ignored the teachings of Christ and ruled by power, terror and fear. By the tactics of the Evil One. No nation can ever remain free that turns its back on God and his son, Jesus Christ. WHA T IS A MERICA 'S FUTURE? America, this great country which we love, is wounded and staggering. Too many of the people are ignoring the teachings of the Savior. Practically all of our problems stem from this error. Too many of the leaders of our country appear to have forgotten Christ. They reject His form of government which gives liberty to the people for that kind which gives them power over the people. We find ourselves in much the same predicament as did Paul as he stated in his epistle to the Ephesians: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Yes, spiritual wickedness in high places. To heal the wounds of America, we Americans need to work diligently to replace those men in high places who have rejected the teachings of Christ with those who respect and live by them. In order to do this, we Americans must first set the example. Paul also said, " Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. A Independent Stand READERS OUTLOOK Independent The A TRIBUTE TO CHRISTIAN PATRIOTS In closing this article and this year, this writer would like to pay tribute to all of the Christian patriots of the past and present. I am grateful for Christ and for His mission and His teachings. I am grateful for those loyal and dedicated Christian American patriots who went before us two hundred years ago to rebel against tyranny and establish liberty in this choice land. I am grateful for all those who have worked, sacrificed, fought and died so that I might enjoy liberty. I am grateful for all those throughout this land and throughout the world who are working and sacrificing for liberty, fighting against the works of the darkness of bondaee. For those w ho might fear that our battle against tyranny is being lost. I wish to give hope and courage. There are many skirmishes in the battle. Wc have lost some skirmishes. Hut wc have not lost the battle. Nor will we lose. We will yet see many skirmishes, and the time might come when our chances seem slim. Hut remember, the truth is on our side. And Christ is on the side of truth. All wc need to do is all we can. With the help of Christ, liberty shall eventually be fully restored to this land and to the world. We shall do well to never waver. To stand fast. We should ever remember the admonition of Paul: Stand Fast Therefore in the Liberty, Wherewith Christ has Made Us f ree And Be Not Entangled Again. With the Yoke of Bondage. May the Lord's blessings of peace and liberty be with all of you always. Merry Christmas and a Joyful and Prosperous New Year from Joe Ferguson. troublemaker! The U. N.
