More than 90 per cent of these communications called for the resignation or impeachment of the President. Let me state at the outset that I am fully aware that impeachment is a most unusual 'and harsh proceeding, not to be lightly or capriciously undertaken. But faith and credibility must be restored to the office of President and throughout government. I hope with all my heart that it will not be necessary to further agonize the nation with a trial of the President to accomplish that end. Continued From Page THE PRESIDENT AND THE ENERGY CRISIS PLANNED CONFUSION The cause of the energy crisis, in almost every case, traces back to the power of controls exercised by the executive branch of the government. Tremendous American industry have been powers over almost all handed to the President by the Congress. And the Presidents exercise of these powers has surely caused the death of many industries. The truth is, the president has exercised these powers with an almost fanatical zeal. And now, since the President has caused so many problems with the exercise of this power, what does he propose to do to correct the problem? Why, enact more regulations such as fuel allocation and rationing. This delivers even more raw, unrestrained power into the hands of the President. It seems the name of the game is to create crises in order to accumulate more power into the hands of the President. life-and-de- ath In order for planned confusion to succeed, the citizenry must be pleasure loving, misinformed, and eternally apathetic, optimistic. Just keep on looking on the bright side of things, and ignoring the many warnings that our freedoms are rapidly being lost, and one day youll be about as free as a mainland Chinaman! The first priority of citizenship is to constantly and Vigilantly monitor and audit government. Do not search for the good in your government, but rather expect it! Appredate it, of course, when you find it. But your vigilance must be directed toward the evil in government. You must expect corruption and deceit and even treason, as well as good. The good, if you dwell on it, will relax your vigilance. The evil, if you search it out and demand its elimination, will make your freedoms safer. Evil unconvered is evil harnessed. Do not listen to those who are optimistic about conditions in todays world. The signs have never been more ominous. Prepare for the worst and pray for the best, but expect the prophecies to be fulfilled. We will come out all right in the long run to the extent that we deserve it, but there may not be much cause for optimism in that observation. If the man you voted to represent you in office fails to uphold the oath he took to support and defend the Constitution, help start a recall movement! If he votes against private ownership of gold; if he votes for further invasions of your DOWN WE GO. UP HE GOES While our economy and the average American is suffering from the Presidents control of the nations fuel supply, the shortage hasnt seemed to slow the President down one mile per hour. In Air Force One, the Presidents jet paid for by the taxpayers, the personal four-engiPresident regularly jets to his vacation spots at San Clemente or to Key Biscayne. The President is not only fast burning up a huge amount of fuel recklessly in his (our) four-engijet, he is fast burning out the patience of the American people. At this point, there would probably be few Republicans rush forward to defend him in an impeachment trial. And few Republican tears would be shed over the impeachment if it occurred. More and more Republicans (as well as ne ne Democrats and Independents) are beginning to think that it is better for one man to be removed from office (or at least stripped of such tremendous power) than for an entire nation to perish. WHY A REPUBLIC AND WHY NOT A DEMOCRACY To destroy the United States of America, you need but change it from a Republic to a Democracy. James Madison, one of the Founding Fathers, recognized this when he said: Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention, incompatible with personal security or the rights of (to) property, and have been as short in their lives as violent in their deaths. Now we know how true this is from our fast rising crime rates as were being changed from a Republic to a Democracy. 1913 was the crucial year. That was when the Income Tax Amendment removed the limitations of federal taxation and put us under the ever developing tyranny of taxation without limitation. That was when U.S. Senators, who until then had been elected by the State governments they were, to represent in Washington, by the 17th Amendment were to be elected popularly and the States were without representation in the Republic. That was when the Federal Reserve Act was passed that took over the Congressional responsibilities of coining our money and regulating the value thereof and Jed us into inflation and the debt society. Americanism was based upon the power of we the people, under God, supreme over government. Not, as now, where the powers of money, of majorities, and of the monopolies of labor, business, press, and education, have the power over the government and the people, and even presume to have the God and His Laws. power to over-rul- e guaranteed Constitutionally privacy; if he votes for trade and aid to the enemy, throw the rascal out! If you will not do these things in defense of your freedoms, then you are part of the problem, not part of the solution! Hughes - survive a winter. It.was a time when the easiest and most obvious thing to do was simply let er all go and leave. Many, frightened and discouraged, did. But most elected to stay and fight the good fight, with wry humor, cooperation, ingenuity and individual resourcefulness. It was common in those days to see men and women laboring days to get their places of back into operation (often as not asking no pay for it) then working through the night on their homes. This kind of k effort went on for weeks. The result was that Fairbanks not only survived, but was transformed into a finer comfn unity than it was before the flood. Nothing builds community spirit faster or better than sharing a common disaster. The L'ord .is still Lord. Americans are still Americans. High spirit and a willingness to labor are still deciding factors in any troublesome situation. The President has stated as policy the intent to make the United States totally in energy by 1980. We support that goal to the fullest. In times past this country has been independent in all its needs. It can be and should be again.
