It is conceivable that there are people in Utah, just as there are people in every other part of the country,, who are zealous about spending their toilearneddollars to support such questionable objectives as The United Nations, foreign wars, foreign wheat deals, and corrupt politicians. If so, that is their prerogative for it is the American way. The enclosed newspaper clipping of an item that originated in Salt Lake City, and which, bears no By Line, would ' appear to support such has suffered a serious decline. L Harris which PLANNED CONTROLS Truth Please Dear Editor: Some 2,600 years ago the prophet Jeremiah faithfully warned the Jewish nation of impending destruction by the Babylonian hordes. The prophet, a true patriot, was opposed by the rulers and their advisers. They ridiculed his forecast of imminent slaughter and captivity. "Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, come, let us smite him with the tongue, and et us not heed any of his words" (Jer. 18:18). The import of their slander Was clear to the prophet who prayed to God, 'Thou, 0 Lord, knowest all their plotting to slay me" (Jer. 18:23). Jeremiah had revealed the truth. A short time later his words were fulfilled. Peaceful Palestinian life was turned into a nightmare of slaughter, torture, imprisonment, separation and captivity. The need for Jeremiahs has General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, said in the years before World War I, 'There is a false belief abroad that only gentle, tender, loving persuasions are in harmony with these New Testament times. In one sense, that statement might be true, and was probably first uttered for a penetrating purpose. It is a reminder of the awful possibilities of the court in the usurpation of power, .although by the Constitution it was denied authority to 'legislate or to amend the founding instrument. As of any given day the most recent decision of the Supreme Court, even if unlawful in truth, commands all the violence and force of the federal government that may be needed to enforce it. In this sense and only in this sense, is it necessarily true that the law is what the Supreme Court says it is. It is not difficult for one with a truthful purpose to understand the essence of the Constitution of the United States, by which all laws are judged. Or, at least, supposed to be. It is also not difficult to determine, then, when a judgment of the Supreme Court, or any other court, is in harmony or in conflict with the Constitution. Since the judgment of a court does not change the Constitution, the Constitution remains by which to judge the judgment. And also the judges. Behind every decision of the Supreme Court, either supporting it or repudiating it, stands the Constitution, pronouncing what its framers intended, and doing so in the clarity of its own words for each citizen to read for himself. Many court judgments, it can be readily proven, constitute radical departures from the Constitution; utterly unsupported by any principle enunciated therein or by any law constitutionally enacted. The shocking and disgusting truth is that, in the Supreme Court's many revolutionary decisions, no effort to learn, speak, or be concerned with the intent of the Constitution is even feigned. The rights of the people are ignored. The statements above, of course, presumes that either this writer knows more about the law than does the Supreme Court judges, or that the judges do indeed understand the law but are deliberately going contrary to it. If this is charged, this writer does not deny it. It is one or the other. And this writer is merely exercising the right of every citizen to observe and evaluate the actions of every government official to determine whether that official is loyal to his trust. It is evident that many of our Supreme Court judges, as well as many other federal judges, are not.
