Officials of Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Cbrp. said that despite record earnings, their firms needed the boosts to offset rising costs of labor and materials and help attract more investment capital. At a CLC public hearing, November 20, to determine if the increases are warranted under federal wage-pricstabilization, Ford Assistant Comptroller David McCammon said there would be problems in the upcoming year unless we get substantial price relief. Under stabilization rules, the CLC must rule on price increase requests by the nations largest corporations before they can take effect. Ford is asking for a $188 increase in the price dealers pay for 1974 model cars and trucks. Chrysler has two increases pending before the CLC totaling $136 more per vehicle at wholesale. Less Driving Time Demanded For Truckmen - A WASHINGTON (UPI) consumer group has filed suit against the Transportation Department, claiming government regulations allow bus and trucking firms to keep drivers at the wheel long after they are too tired to see straight Drivers have little choice but to combat fatigue with pills when their employers threaten them with firing, if they refuse to work abthe long hours, normally Council Drivers professional (PROD) said in a suit filed in federal court, November 26. Joined by Reps. Bob Eckhardt, and Fred Rooney, PROD asked the court to an injunction which would force the transportation department to revise its regulations governing truck and bus drivers. Under the .current regulations, drivers can be required to work up to 15 hours a day, not including meal breaks, and shipping delays which can extend the driver's workthe petition day unmercifully, D-Te- x., n., Four-Da- y Holidays The Department of Labor cautioned employers to be aware of the Fair Labor Standards Act if they are con- sidering granting employees four-da- y holidays during the Christmas and New Year Weeks.
