At 12 oclock the PTA will serve as hosts at luncheon and the teachers will spend the afternoon is candidate for district Judge getting ready to meet their classes the following day. Students will regeister at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday and a full day of school will follow. The cafeteria will serve lunch at the usual time and parents have already been notified regarding prices, time, etc. Theodore Haynes, president of the Board of Education announces' the following employees, as of this date, for the 1970-7- 1 school year. Eureka Elementary: Kindergarten, Pauline Carter; 1st, Agnes Anderson; 2nd Patricia Thompson; 3rd, Gertrude Judge James P. McCune, fifth District Judge, has announced his candidacy for election to the unexpired term for which he was appointed in 1969, which term runs through 1972. Judge McCune practiced law in Nephi from 1941 to 1969, and was sworn in as judge on August 5, 1969. Contributions should be sent to your lorel Red Cross chapter. en District Judges to be queried e Bountiful driver Eureka Cubs get Miss Juab contest injured in wreck sportsmanship trophy at meet at Nephi Tuesday A Bountiful man escaped serious injury Tuesday afternoon, when the large tractor-traile- r truck he was driving left the road, jacknifed and rolled over about 10 miles south of Eureka. Roland L. Sharpe, Bountiful, was going south on U.S. 50-- 6 when the accident occurred, according to Juab County Deputy Sheriff, Ron Gilson. The truck belonging to Ashworth Trucking Co. of Salt Lake iCty, was loaded with cast iron pipes about 29 feet long, and pipes were scattered over a wide area when the truck overturned. Reason for the truck leaving the road is not yet known, Mr. Gilson said, and investigation is continuing. Mr. Sharpe was taken to the Payson City Hospital and later transferred to the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. A John B. Thomas Reunion was held last Sunday at Salem Park. He was an attorney for the Railroad Retirement Board in Washington, and after returning to Utah served as Juab County Attorney from 1941 to 1961. He resigned this position ' to devote his entire time to private practice. Judge McCune served as president of the Utah State Bar and was Utah State s in 1957-5Bar Commissioner from the Fifth District for five years. He is a member of the Utah State Bar, Southern Utah Bar Association, which he was instrumental in organizing, and the American Bar Association. He is affiliated with Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, Utah State University chapter. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Saints, he has held many positions in the church, and as a civic leader he has been president of Kiwanis, president of the Juab County Hospital Board, and an officer of Nephi Lat-terd- Church; 4th, Ivan Carlisle; 5th, Deanna Bryan; 6th, Elisabeth Haynes. The teams played 8 games. Benjamin won the Championship Trophy and Payson Lions won 2nd place, with Goshen winning the consolation trophy. The Eureka Cubs won a nice trophy for sportsmanship. The summer games are now completed and the boyn arc very pleased with their showing in the league. Manager Roy Gourley has spent much time during the summer months, and is being given a big hand for his interest in the Little League games. Pony Lcnguo Four boys from Eureka played for the Goshen Pony League during the summer. Bert Thomas won a trophy for the highest number of hits during the season, and his record showed Fork 3 home runs. Spanish White Sox won the championship trophy; Nephi won the second place trophy, with Goshen winning the consolation trophy. THS books must be returned All books checked out at the Tintic High School Library, must be brought in before school opens on the 25th of August. A beauty contest will be held August 25 in Nephi for the title of Miss Juab County. The winner will compete in Salt Lake for the title of Miss Utah. Each contestant will give a talent number, and appear in suits and evening bathing gowns. All contestants must be unmarried and between the ages of 17 and 27. Anyone interested is asked to contact lone Ryan as soon as possible. CHURCH NEWS Methodist Church A combined Sunday School and Church Service will be held Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the City Park, with Rev. Sammons conducting. He promises something of special interest at ths combined meeting. Mr. on radio program The Cedar City League of Women Voters, with the cooperation of radio station KSUB, Cedar City, has arranged a special interview program featuring the three candidates for the post of Fifth District Judge, on Monday,1 August 24, at 8:00 p.m., at the Cedar City South Elementary School. The public is cordially invited to attend. The program will also be broadcast over radio station KSUB. Hie three candidates, incumbent Judge James P. McCune, and attorneys J. Harlan Bums and Christian Ronnow will be interviewed by a representative of the Cedar City League, on specific questions relating to tho judiciary. There will be a question and answer period following, and radio listeners are invited to phone in questions. The Cedar City LWV takes special interest in the subject of the judiciary this election year, as the LWV of Utah is slated to begin this fall a yearlong study of the State's court system. The judgeship contest is nonpartisan. Voters will vote for two of the candidates in tho September primary. the two winning candidatesOnly will appear on the November ballot. The League is a nonpartisan organization which does not support, oppose or evaluate candidates. and Mrs. Jim McNeil were in Provo on Sunday attending t)ie Laird family reunion.
