Eureka natives Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bee and son, Mike, of Phoenix, Arizona, left Saturday after spending a week here with her mother, Airs. Alary Thomas. During their stay they made a trip to Salt Lake City where they visited with an old friend nad former resident of Eureka, Frank Townley and daughter, Anna Lou. The trip was most enjoyable for all of them. Other visits were made to Payson where they visited with Mrs. Thomas' brother and family, Air. and Aina R. El Finch. In Spanish Fork they spent a few hours with Air. and Airs. Bert Thomas and another trip was made to Vernon where they had an enjoyable time with Air. and Airs. Bemell Thomas and family, and with Airs. Charlotte White in Goshen. While here Mrs. Bee celebrated her birthday and her mother entertained at a family dinner in her honor with all members of the family attending. To add climax to the evening they put a call into Grand View, Wash., when they talked with another daughter of Airs. Thomas, Mrs. Rachael Greenhalgh, who had celebrated her birthday three days before. Needless to say, the week was a very pleasant one for the entire family. Visitors on Saturday at the home of Airs. Vola Nevers were Mrs. Blna Bate and son. Dale of Provo and her cousins from London. During their stay here of they were taken on a tour Johnthe Burgen Aline by Ted son, which proved to be most interesting to the London visitors. They also enjoyed the Pioneer Day Parade and fetl it was surely a sign of a combined very community effort and ' well arranged. Visitors Saturday at the home of Airs. Belle Coffey were Mr. and Airs. Former resident dies In SLC; services held Emron BL Birch, 60, died of natural causes in a Salt Lake City hospital July 16, 1969. He was bom in Knightsville August 21, 1908, a son of Franklin and Roseltha McEwan Birch. He attended school in Eureka and graduated from Untie High School He married Helen Gear February 2i; 1930, in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a D&RGW Railroad official for 25 years. He filled an LDS mission to New Zealand. He was a clerk in Untie Stake 'for seven years and he served as a secretary nd treasurer for Sioux Consolidated Alines Co., worked in Eure- ka Mercantile Commission Co., assistant postmaster at Eureka, graduate of Electro-Motiv- e Engineering Co. Survivors include his widow and three daughters, Mr. John (Helen) Halander; Airs. Dale (Barbara) Bradley; Mrs. Terry (Marilyn) Del Andrae, all of Salt Lake City; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Vem (Ada) Green, Mrs. Lionel (Virginia) Fairbanks, both of Provo. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in Salt Lake City and burial was in Wasatch Lawn Memorial of Nephi. Colorado giri Two men, Les Larsen, 25, and Alax Larsen, 41, natives of Eureka, now living in Riverton, Wyoming, recently helped save a Denver girl from drowning in the Popo Angie River at the Sinks Cav- Aliss Helen Downey of San Francisco and Miss Karen Downey of Provo were in Eureka Saturday visiting with friends. 17-year-- old ' ern. son of Alammoth were in Heber Saturday and Sunday attending a meeting of the Utah State Firemens Association. Mr. Toone was installed as a trustee at the meeting. Others installed to serve with him were Orvel AtaAfee, four-ye- ar president, Heber; Lynn Iverson, Tremonton, first Grant Walker, Salt Lake City, second Fred Booth, St George, five-yevice-preside- nt; and Mrs. Bert Hanks, and Airs. Provo on in Vola Nevers were Sunday evening calling on the Air. The girl slipped into the river while sunning herself. Her cries for help brought the Larsens back to the river. They had been fishing and were preparing to leave. They got to the river in time to watch her swept by in the current toward the whirlpool where the Popo Angie disappears underground in the Sinks Cavern. At the cavern the giri, Janet E. Smith, 17, Denver, was able to catch hold of a ledge. The men joined by Alaxs son, Jon, 14, and Tony Vigil of Lander, Wyo., scrambled over the rocks, reached her with a pole and pulled her to safety. The rescue took place some 15 minutes from the time Aliss Smith fell into the water. Les Larsen, who was recovering from a knee operation carried her on his back a quarter of a mile up stream to a bridge where an ambulance was waiting. The girl was treated for cuts and bruises and released at the Bishop Randall Hospital in Riverton, Wyoming. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Larsen, parents of Alax and Les are presently redding in Provo. 15-fo- Air. and Mrs. James Toone and Air. and Airs. Oscar Erick- Airs. Wm. Treloar ar Josie Sullivan and Belle Coffey were in Provo Monday morning attending funeral services for Mrs. Stella Shea. trustee. In the absence of the president of the association, John Creedon of Sandy, state secre- -. tary, installed the officers. R. C. Wheeler of Delta was the president and was unable to attend. A banquet preceded the meet and an early breakfast on Sunday was held at the home of Air. and Airs. Kent Hiatt in Heber. There were about 60 in attendance at the nicely planned affair. Guests last Thursday at the home of Mrs. Anna AIcDonnel were her sister, Mrs. Florence Bruno of Alidvale and Mr. and Airs. Nels Nelson of Sandy. So Carefree... Stella Shea family. .Airs. Grace Bernini, Ann and ot vice-preside- nt; out-goi- ng , John Weldon left Sunday morning for his home in Santa Alaria, Calif. He had spent the past week here visiting with relatives and friends. He was the grand marshal for the Pioneer Day Parade held Saturday at the request of the parade committee, and Ron Griggs. Par-a- d 1 ' I Kin of Eureftan dies at Price Word was received in Eure- ka Tuesday of the death of Verna Jackson Cromar, 63 who died in a Price hospital Monday of natural causes. She was a sister-in-laof Mrs. Earlene Gear of Eureka. She was bom April 22, 1906, a daughter of David and Amelia Hatch Jackson. She married Eugene Cromar December 29, 1931, in Salt Lake City and the marriage was later solemnized in Alanti Temple. They made their home in Eureka for several years following their marriage where Air, Cromar taught Park. w Reed Dalton of Nevada spent Saturday here visiting at the Bob Fife home. He is an uncle of Bobs. Guests on Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bradford of Spanish Fork Col-ovi- ch and Air. and Mrs. Barry Colo-vic- h at Tintlc High and son of Logan. Mrs. Cromar taught school in Carbon School District for Mrs. Gerald Brown and child- ren of Salt Lake City were in town over the 'weekend enjoying the Pioneer Day festivities and parade. They were guests at the home of her brother and family, Air. and Airs. Dan Lucas. , Visiting at the Lorln Thompson home is their granddaughter, Trudy Thompson, daugh- ter of Air. and Mrs. Jay Thomp- son of Richfield, and a friend, Sonya Jorgensen. Mr. and Mrs. Rusty Rife and Airs. Luella Gear of Springville were in town for a short stay Monday evening when they visited with friends.
