As Representatives, we come to the Legislature to represent the people, thinking that their overwhelming vote indicated that they were dissatisfied with the way the government was going, and wanted a change. This was indicated by the landslide vote for the Republicans and the rejection of all of the constitutional amendments placed on the ballot by the previous legislature. It appeared that people had lost confidence in what the previous legislature had been doing. WEEKLY AT EUREKA, UTAH Art students invited to enter contest to the Santaquin Stake House Tuesday evening, where the Mutual girls and their mothers enjoyed Dear to My Heart night, with other wards in the stake. A fine program was presented and refreshments were served at the close of the evening. Brenda Sutherland, Mia Maid teacher, accompanied the young ladies to Santaquin. August of 1965, the voters in two of Utahs most populous cities, Salt Lake City and Provo, decisively turned down the Urban Renewal program enacted by the 1965 Legislature by a vote of 6 to 1 and 3 to 1. . The 1967 Legislature, unfortunately, failed to heed the mandate of the people by not repealing the Urban Renewal Enabling legislation when they had such a wonderful opportunity. This Legilature expressed a desire to hold the line on increased taxation and, for the time being, have kept that promise. However, it has laid the groundwork for a massive program of federal aid along with the controls and directives that go with it. Much of our time in this session of the Legislature was consumed in enacting the compulsory federal aid directives which are inherent in federal aid laws which were simultan Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sands trom were Nephi visitors Sunday. . Miss Carol Ann Webb was in Salt Lake City Friday evening attending a dinner for secretaries in the TAD area. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Nelson and small son are visiting here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas. The Utah State Fair, as a part of its program to encourage more residents of our state to participate in the State Fair, has invited art students at all of Utah's high schools to enter, a contest for the cover design of the 1967 State Fair Premium Book. The winning entry, which will be selected by the Fairs Fine Arts Supervisors, will be used on the cover of the premium book, and the winning contestant will receive a $50 cash prize. Second place winner will receive a $25 cash prize. Does your child hear properly? How can you tell if your child may have a hearing problem? The New York City Department of Health offers this list of clues. Parents should be alert when a child: Seems more aware of movement than of sound. Hence, there were many no votes expressed by those of us who felt that our rights were being placed in jeopardy. We join with President Bar-loof the Senate in his concern over the future increase in state taxation which these federal programs will bring. However, our greater concern is the ease with which this Legislature accepted every federal program offered, fully w realizing that our state government must increase in size and expense to conform to the federal directives in order to ob- tain the federal funds. It is evident that forces favoring federal domination have influenced much of the legislation enacted this session. J. Reese Hunter, Rep. Richard M. Brough, Rep. David LIngard, Rep.
