Mr. and Mrs. Storrs drove Mrs. Nilson home on Sunday. . far tommy mmsthu jfais For the past two months a Eureka Youth Committee has been holding regular meetings to work out some program that will be more effective in helping control smoking and drinking on the school grounds. The committee has also recommended a policy for handling turancy more effectively. Committee members working on these problems include Paul n C. Fawson, superintendent; Fred Chappell, principal; H. Holladay, counselor; Leland Sanderson, board president; Ted Haynes, member; Charles Ferris, mayor of Eureka; Robert Fife, councilman; Ted Haynes, chief of police; Marie Evans, PTA president; C 1 e o Judge, third vice president, Payson Council PTA; Patricia Brady, PTA vice president; Monroe Paxman, judge, juvenile court; Val Harris, Mr. Ur- ban, juvenile court counselor; Fay Parker, welfare department; James Paramore, state youth committee; Gerald Peterson, sheriff and Thomas state highway patroL The committee has recommended the following policies be adopted by the board after students and parents have had an opportunity to study them: Smoking and drinking policy will be to transfer students under the age of 19, who have in their possession alcohol or tobacco, to the Juvenile Court. The principle will make the referral unless a law. enforcement officer is present at the time of apprehension. Law enforcement policy will be under, the direction of the principal to supervise all school functions. If he is unable to cope with the situation, law enforcement officers may be called in when the activity is La-Vo- Ry-nears- on, . Juvenile Court and will be lumed by the Court on the personal appearance of the rightful owner, after the expiration of the suspension period. Police are asked to deliver truants to the school principal and notify the Juvenile Court authorities of the fact that the student was using a motor vehicle to facilitate truancy. If the principal has evidence that a truant student did use a motor vehicle to facilitate the truancy, he may make a referral without police action having been taken. Also school personnel' or any citizen may report violators to the principal. The Juvenile Court is to inform the principals of any court action taken under the program. Adults and juveniles involved with truants will be referred to the court Also students of age found to be truant will also be referred. Five tardies involving an automobile will be classified and handled as an auto re- non-scho- ol non-drivi- ng truancy.
