The counties represented arc Duchesne, Uintah and Daggett. The Board is a non profit organization for administering the distribution of the revenue from the transient room tax. This tax is collected from all places of overnight lodging and it is returned to the counties from which it is collected if the county uses the money for the promotion of tourism. the Duchesne Area Representing chamber as a trustee is Less Brown. The Travel board is under the control of the three county commissioners. The chamber is pleased to be a part of this organization and we are hoping to see some beneficial promotion of our area. There is a man in our community that has done so much to promote growth, good will and opportunity that we feel that he well deserves our recognition and our sincere thanks. Sec if you know this man. He has worked promoting our area since 1946. He has been a city councilman, a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, a boy scout merit badge counselor, the historian for the Utah American Legion, the chairman for the Utah American Legion Boys state program, a counselor at Boys Slate in Logan, Americanism chairman for the American Le district PTA leaders, the first fair board chairman to the county fair after world war II, librarian for the Duchesne library (when we had one), member of the Civilian Conservation Corp., Air Corp Sargeant, a radiolocal monitor technician for the civil defense program, a hunter safety instructor, an aircraft observor, a swimming and first aid instructor for the American National Red Cross, an MIA teacher for the Mormon church and a president of the garden club. This man has answered mail and developed and mailed brochures of our area taken piculres, to promote area and has ilone endless work to help tourism, all at gion. local PTA president, lresident, a 4-- Du-rhes- since 1934 and Jim has had the business for the last 16 years. Jim, originally from Duchesne, is an established member of the community. He is a member of the Duchesne city council and has been active in supporting the community in many ways. The cafe employs an everage of 15 people and Jim has increased the seating capacity over the years from 38 to 88. Jim has continually improved and remodeled the restaurant to make it a nicer place for us. Jim and his wife Terry have two children, ages 13 and 12. The first score came on a pass play from Mark Hall to John Welsh. The other two touchdowns were scored by Kent Brown. There will be dance Friday night from 9 to 12 p.m. East Carbon will play Duchesne at 1:30 this Friday, October 5 at Duchesne. Tryouts for this year's school play were held Thursday, Sept. 27. There will be a live band "Wildchilde". painting, an authority on rocks and minerals, and a hunter and fisherman. He has worked for the forest service for the last 12 years and has supported the junior chamber of commerce, the West Duchesne county chamber and is currently supporting the Duchesne area chamber. This week the chamber would like to recognize member, Jim Cowan, owner and operator of Cowan's Cafe in Duchesne. Cowan's cafe has been in operation Weekdays: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Shumway's arc here in Duchesne to stay, having bought their business from "Jake" Jacoby. They are really enthused about their business and they have some exciting plans for the future in addition to being a pharmacy. They intend to carry full lines of cosmetics, jewelry, gift items, magazines, paperbacks, veternary supplies, medical supplies, hair care items, baby supplies, greeting cards, health vitamins and appliances including clocks and watches. They will be carrying nationally advertised goods and will be having periodic specials. John and Connie also plan to open a sandwich and snack shop. Another interesting attraction will be a special film processing operation which will offer extreme price benefits to the customer. Duchesne Drug will handle master charge and John has devised a system where he will keep records of each customers prescriptions on their own patient profile card. This will be convenient if you should lose the number of your prescription or if you should need itemized income tax information. The cahmber is delighted to welcome this young couple with their fresh, new ideas into our area.
