Office move is economic necessity Efforts are being made by groups of individuals from Vernal and Rangely, and by the Vernal Chamber of Commerce to thwart the move of the central office of Moon Lake Electric from Vernal to Roosevelt. The is understandable, opposition and expected. However, some of the information being disseminated by the opposing groups seems to transcend the truth. They would have us believe that the move would be a financial disaster for the association. We can hardly concur in this thinking. To the contrary, we feel that astute study on the part of any member or consumer can prove that the move would be of inestimable economic value to Moon Lake Electric Associa- same area which created the power company now enjoys new impetus and growth. It is an economic fact that whatever financial stimulus an important company such as Moon Lake Electric has on a community mushrooms and comes back in kind Expenditures by the company, by its employees, plus taxes and other services reach nearly every facet ten-fol- d. of our society. However, in the present d these returns are to Moon not presently accruing Lake Electric Association nor to communities which feed nourishment into its life stream, but rather to a competing company, and into a community which is in direct economic competition to sti-uatio- n, ten-fol- communities now supporting Moon Lake Electric. To say that our communities here, as well as members and consumers of Moon Lake Electric would be better off to vote to leave the main office where it is, a person would be totally inconsistent. Even the consumers of Rangely, although closer to the present central office, could receive nothing but economic benefit from the move a move which would funnel additional funds into circulation within the company, rather than bleed these same funds off to a competitor. We must remember that Moon Lake Electric Association holds a position of extreme importance within the Uintah Basin. It can have a profound effect on the economic future of every one of our communities. But we must make sure that the association is so located that it can bring the greatest benefits to the area it serves. We believe, with all sincerity, that this can not be done while the main office of Moon Lake Electric is located in Vernal an area not serviced by the company. tion. Examine the facts. First, the claim that the move will cost the association from $500,000 to $1,000,000, a cost which will have to be borne by consumers in higher rates over the coming years, is developed as strictly a scare tactic. The truth is that the additional facilities needed for the central office in Roosevelt (above the cost of the building which is to be built here regardless of whether or not the change is made) can more than be financed through the disposition of present office properties in Vernal and Roosevelt. The proposed building program at Roosevelt could include sufficient facilities for the central office with no financial hardship on the company. On the other hand the far-reachi- ng effect of economic value to be gained by the move of the central operations to an area being served by the association cannot be comprehended. Moon Lake Electric Association was spawned and nurtured in this area. It's life blood came from the small rural communities of Duchesne County and Western Uintah County.
