Show Outward Bound groups Fair activities to feature boat races on new Starvation Dam A new feature of the 1970 Duchesne County sir will be the running of family type1 boat races on the recently completed Starvation Reservoir. Since water recreation is test becoming one of the top features of recreation within the county, it Is felt by fair officials that the races can become one of the attractions of the county fair. Race chairman Clarin Ashby reports that tha races will be run over about a five mile course, extendlnf from the highway 40 bridge, north around the large Island which lies to the north of the old highway alignment, then back, ending at the bridge. Racers will gather in the area above tha bridge, where boats should report at least 15 minutes before their race Is called. A short pit meeting for instructions will be held, then racers will be allowed to form up and plane out behind a pace boat as they approach the bridge. At the drop of a white flag from tha pace boat at the bridge, the race will be underway. Races will Include three separate classes. Class one, Including al out board motors up to 90 h.p. will get the 5:30 starting time. They should report to the Since the last week of June, large blue vans have been seen on the streets of Roosevelt either empty or filled with young women on their way to a unique program, the Colorado Outward Bound School. There are two courses running for girls Vernal. By August 26, there will be a total of 142 young women from all over the United. States who will have completed the 26 day program according to the Course Director, Robert Hopewell. The outward Bound programs have now been expanded to Include courses for teachers, business managers and college students. Spectators are invited to be on hand to witness the races. Observation points will be set up over the race route, with directional signs posted. Persons who plan to watch the races from boats, as well as racers not Involved In a particular heat, are asked to remain clear of the racing area. No prior registration for the races will be necessary.
