There is scarcely an Ameri- can family that has not felt its influence. In many families there have now been three generations active in its work. Even as Scouting strengthens family life in America, this years Boy Scout week observance focuses on the contribution families make both to Scouting and the American way of life. In the younger boy program Cub Scouting parents participate with their sons. Mothers serve as den mothers or helpers in other ways, and fathers become den dads and Cub Pack committeemen. In Boy Scouting and the older boy program of Exploring, parents show their interest by their participation in Scouting functions. It has become tradition in Scout Scout leaders feel that because of the active participation of parents in Scouting programs that a profound impression is being made on the home life of millions of Americans. Families brought together in Scouting are said to be stronger families. Certainly stronger families mean a stronger America. Boy Scout Because of the prematurity of the situation, we were asked not to go into greater detail as to the progress of legislative action last week. However, since that time, a bill has been entered in the House of Representatives, under the sponsorship of Representative Dennis. Encouragement is being given by several sources, however, and the possibility does exist that an appropriation may be obtained. sure ...tobe Jf' During through unit, district and council programs, typical Scouting families will be recognized. We join in saluting Scouting for the role it plays in families of the 1734 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers in the Uintah Basin area of the Utah National Parks Council. We congratulate the fam-lie- s selected as outstanding Scouting families in our area. They are the kind of families that are building the kind of character in young people that is America's true strength. A meeting is to be held this week with the State Coordinating Council on Higher Education, together with a committee of backers of the Basin College. Other steps are being taken to leave no stone unturned in seeking the fund authorization. It should be noted that the to drive obtain a junior college in the Basin is being supported by a large number of individuals, as well as school and civic leaders in both Duchesne and Uintah Counties. A tremendous amount of research and fact compiling has been accomplished by members of the committee working on the project, and whether or not the drive is successful during this legislative session, it stands to reason that our position will be strengthened for future consideration. .6?
