Without these prerequisites, the person is subject to arrest As school starts, the problem becomes more acute. With a large number of children on the streets going to and from school, the presence of inexperienced, and often underage operators of motor bikes presents a tremendous danger to the school children. We have been informed that in the past there have been motor bikes driven to school by junior high students. It is readily apparent that these are in violation, since, almost without exception, junior high students are not of proper age to obtain an operators permit in Utah. Many of the sophomores at the high school are also not qualified to drive the vehicles. As to where the solution might lie, and where the blame should fall, no indication was made. However, it would appear that parental control is the only means of stopping the practice. Parents who purchase motor bikes for their children, under the age required for qualification for a license, should realize the folly of this action. Not only are they contributing to an unlawful act, they are certainly flouting the law be-- transportation, only dulges the trend toward soft living which we as adults are prone to follow. Yet, at the same time, we go to great lengths to see that our young people obtain proper exercise. Parents should realize the liability they are placing upon themselves by providing these vehicles for their children. The same should apply to the purchase of automobiles. by Louise Jorgensen Miss Louise Edwards has Just returned from a week in Seattle, Wash., visiting Mr. end Mrs. Mike Barrett and other friends. If we close our eyes to these facts, we are asking for trouble. One mother stated that, My boy sure operates his car economically. He seldom asks for money for gas, although he seems to always be in the car going someplace. It still takes gas to operate a car, and if he doesnt get the money from some apparent source, he must be using an Oklahoma credit card. Secondly, parents should be aware that they carry a great deal of the legal responsibility for the actions of their youngsters in motor vehicles, particularly if the child is under age, and driving with the knowledge of their parents. It is a problem that exists, whether we recognize it or not. It is a problem that should be resolved before more serious consequences develop. ions.
