Mary has always been the acknowledged sweetheart of the world in her work in moving pictures but this new Mary is the queen of the speaking screen crowned by her loving admirers the world over. In her latest and, without the shadow of a doubt, her greatest effort Mary Pickford is appearing at the Granada in Coquette, a powerful dramatic film sensation even more successful than the stage version of the same story. Mary appears in a role really her very first grown-u- p but the charm of the old Mary remains and is multiplied a thousand times by the fact that Mary speaks right to you from the screen and what a voice it is truly golden brings to the realm of the speaking screen the assurance that there is at least one girl whose voice is almost perfection in its reproduction. The Granada to be congratulated upon the enterprise of the management in securing and presenting such a talking classic as Mary Pickford in it is quite the most deCoquette lightful talker Salt Lake has seen and with the seasoned artistry of CITIZEN S ILAC&I2 ing that she can as easily extricate herself from him as she has from the rest. But lie feels that she needs a lesson and forces her to go through with the game to what end the plot of the play illustrates. Miss Pickford surrounded by a most excellent cast the attraction is up at the top of the list of fine things that have been brought to Salt Lake in recent years. Surely Salt Lakers will flock to the Granada to see such a gem of picturecraft. i PLAYHOUSE ' Scandal starts over at the 'Playhouse Sunday and Theodora War-fiel- d and Ben Erwayare mixed up in it along with the Metropolitan Players who make fine entertainment out of wagging tongues and tensely dramatic situations. The "story of the play is about a young girl who is used to having her own way in everything even to the trifling with the feelings of her male acquaintences. She is so attractive that she is excused for every digression from the pathway of fairness and her admirers, among the men, seem to be satisfied to be mistreated shamefully just so they are allowed-tbask in the sunshine of her smile for a time. Finally the inevitable happens she meets a man who will not stand for her nonsense. At being placed in an embrassing position she clears herself by announcing that she n, has just married this think He-ma- Scandal is a real success and will have a fine production at the hands of the Playhouse Company. Theodora Warfield will play the wilful but charming maiden and Ben Erway has the role of her conqueror. The remainder of the company will have fine parts and the production will be especially complete. - PANTAGES The worlds premier of Willard Macks talking picture is on the boards at Pantages this week where The Voice of The City is being screened with Willard Mack, long a Salt Lake favorite in the cast. o -- Mr. Mack wrote the scenario, directed the production and plays the leading role in it. It is an all talking picture with dialogue throughout the entire presentation and it certainly is making a hit with the Pantages patrons.
