The ideal hunting season is from January 1 to May 1. During this time lions are found nearly every day. Later in the year it takes longer to find them, but the hunter who camps on the trail always gets one. game birds, trapshooting is becoming more popular every year and the near future will find gun clubs organized in every city. The cost may be brought down somewhat so as to meet the ordinary pocketbook, but at present it is a little stiff for the average shooter. When bluerocks were invented many years ago, the sportsmen of this city were among the first in the country to organize a club and there has been steady trap shooting ever since. Today there is more interest in the sport than ever and every Sunday morning finds many of the boys at the traps, perfecting their eyesight and cracking the clay members shot at pigeons. It is a sport, which is beyond the reach of a poor man because of the expense attached to it, but those who can afford it, get a big thrill and much enjoyment. DeLong says hunting lions is an sport and when he takes a party out he always guarantees a lion. During the winter months when snow is on the ground, lions are more easily found and the dogs can more easily follow the scent, being guided by the tracks as well. In the summer, however, when it is dry, it takes a very good dog to pick up the trail and keep it, and the trail must be fresh at that. The deer scatter during the summer and the lions follow the deer.
