Show THE CITIZEN 12 BINGHAM SHOOTERS START NEW TRAP SHOOTING CLUB That Bingham Canyon is fast forging to the front as a sportsmans haven is shown in the fact that a short time ago a trap shooting club was organized, with shoots to be held each Sunday morning. The traps, which were donated by Wiley Colman of the Peters Shell company, have been placed on the old tailings pond on the lower road, and at this time the club boasts of twenty-fiv- e members. Although many of the members are launching into their first try with the traps, several good scores have been turned in, and much enthusiasm is being shown. A cordial invitation has been ELKS HELP RIOT. . attend the Riot of the Salt Lake County Fish and Game association held at the Elks club Thursday night? Well, you just missed on grand time. The club house was crowded with sportsmen, many of them from other 5 Riots held. It was a kind of affair, and outside of the eats, fishing and hunting stories were among the features of the evening. Governor Dem made a short address to the boys on fish and game, as did Mayor Bowman and Commissioner Madsen. A special orchestra furnished the music, and a quartet entertained with good singing. Statistics say that from 1918 to 1926, inclusive, of the 1882 people killed in New York City, only eight were slain by men defending their own lives. Such figures do not prove that the average person does not need a pistol for defense; they may prove that exlaws have kept isting anti-pistmany of the 1882 victims from defending themselves. Most of the 1882 killers went free on pleas of insanity, or through frantic appeals of slobbering sentimentalists who had already fobbed innocence of the means to prolaws tect itself; for the fire generally framed and urged by the elements that send flowers and dainties to rapists and murderers and who sob over the woes of the human butcher and degenerate. pistol-totin- g Indiscriminate may well be declared unlawful, like the possession of poisons or powerful explosives where their menace outweighs their necessity. But by no stretch of the imagination could even ol anti-pist- ol be as loathuniversal pistol-totin- g some or as deadly as a law to leave Decency helpless and at the mercy of Vice. The remedy for crime does not lie in forbidding arms for legitimate use or defense, but in better execution of the laws against crime. These laws are too often nullified bv hysteria that raves against the loss of life by shootings, while urging the abolishment of crime penalties, thereby making murder a fine art or a psycopathic lark.
