According to reports Ogden will enter the Bepublican convention with at least four candidates who aspire to be governor. The friends of W. H. Wattis are busy and will try to induce him to run. A. P. Biglow is another big business man of Ogden who will be in the race. There is also S. M. Dye and Fred M. Nye. So far, Salt Lake has no candidate for governor but no doubt there will be several in the race when the proper time comes. State Treasurer John Walker, of Ogden, has his eye glued affecting land titles ; deeds delivered after the death of the to the chair of secretary of state. Walker has been an efficient treasurer, but according to law can only have one term as treasgrantors. A title policy insures against all defects and grafters are urer, otherwise he could easily get the nomination and be elected. POULTBY DISCBIMINATION vice-presiden- er ts ' The Poultry Producers Association of Utah is a mighty fine organization, and the large number of eggs their flocks produce and the surplus stock of chickens they sell, both to the New York market, as well as to the Coast, and local markets, are a big advertisement to the state. However, judging from reports coming to this office, they are boosting outside products in preference to their own. It is said that about 3,000,000 chicks are annually imported and nearly all of the supplies, and The Citizen believes this is an injustice to local dealers and a direct discrimination against the local industry. IVhat is the Chamber of Commerce doing in cities like Salt Lake, Ogden. Provo, Brigham City and Logan, where immense hatching plants have been installed at great expense! Utah today boasts of dozens of hatcheries financed by local men with local capital behind each and every hatchery. All of these men are entitled to support, if for no other reason than that they can produce a better article than the imported product. Under the direction of the Utah Agricultural College, chicken breeders have produced superior stock in the market. Chickens bred, hatched and raised in this climate are much superior to the imported article and consequently the loss is very much less. Vitality in young chicks means a great deal to the purchaser because there is less sickness and less loss than is true in poor stock. Considering all these facts, it would be natural to purchase stock from the local dealers rather than import. IVhat Utah Makes, Makes Utah, is a slogan if lived up to means greater prosperity for all of us. ' ' SENATOB BEED COMING Senator James A. Beed of Missouri, candidate for the nomination for president on the Democratic ticket, will be in this city next Monday to make a political address, and no doubt he will receive a hearty reception by all the people. He is one of the big men of the nation and wras one of the most bitter enemies to the League of Nations wdien that famous document was brought to this country by the late President IVoodrow Wilson for our indorsement and signature. He does not believe in entangling alliances with European nations, and believes in sticking closely to the Constitution of the United States. He is considered one Judge H. S. Tanner and Judge Morgan of the Juvenile Court are out for the district bench. Both men have a large following of friends who are anxious to put them over. The Utah National Park has been changed to Bryce Canyon National Park in a bill which was recently signed by President Coolidge. The Utah Copper Company has planned to build 24 new I cottages at Copperton, to cost about $110,000, and to be com-addi-pleted during the coming summer. This will be quite an tion to the cottages already constructed. The first thing ve I I know, Bingham will be moving down on the flat. 1 1 I I ENCOUBAGES CBIME Six boys found guilty of stealing automobiles and commit ting burglaries have been sent to the reform school. They range from 15 to 18 years in age. When a boy gets to be eighteen years of age and is common ordinary thief, the reform school is only a joke. THE SPEED DEMON The car was only traveling at a moderate speed; suddenly it swerved and rolled over several times and threw its occupants twenty feet, and that is the average description of the ordinary automobile accident. It all depends what you call moderate art speed. Sixty miles is slow for some drivers ; others throw the speedometer in order to make 75 miles appear slow.
