Show THE 10 sidcrable degree. Thus a medium highly susceptible to mineralization was formed so that during a later period the mineralizing solutions which ascended the fissures, dammed in by the of quartzite impervious hanging-wa- ll readily and thoroughly replaced the soluble limestone foot-wal- l. Just as important as this primary period of mineralization was the secondary, when the rich mineral outcrops were carried down and deposited with the already considerable mineralization of the lying along the foot-wa- ll thrust-contac- t. Profiting by the experience of the Cardiff and Wasatch mines, the and Atla Merger Mines commenced exploring certain fissures in their respective properties which at an intersected the thrust-contaCol-umbus-Re- xall ct angle of 60 to 70 degrees. The has developed an ore shoot for more than 400 feet on the is level perty, and the lowest in its prodip of this thrust-contashowing the highest grade silver that has yet been developed in the property. In the Alta Merger Mines, at an intersection of the thrust-contaand the Wedge fissure, an enormous shoot of high grade clean sulphide ore was encountered, and more recently the downward extension of the rich Rustler ore body was encountered at a point 2,000 feet in from portal of its Quincy tunnel and at a vertical depth of 1200 feet below the surface. This ore body is making at the intersection of the rich Rustler fissure and the thrust-contac- t. Sampling of this ore to date shows an average of 35 ounces of silver, 16 per cent lead and $2.00 in gold to the ton, and gives this company on this ore shoot about 800 feet of backs on the dip of the thrust-contaup to the lowest of the old Rustler workings. This find, which was made in the last two weeks, is undoubtedly the most important ore disclosure which has been made' in the Alta ore zone for some time, and is intensively interesting to mining companies to the south of the Alta Merger mines, as this thrust-contatraverses the Alta Merger Mines property for more than two miles, and is intersected by eleven fissures in the property of the Alta Merger Alines Company. This thrust-contaextends south of the Mines Alta Merger property into the Louise and is also intersected by several strong fissures in the Louise property, and then again in the Mineral Flrt portion of the Alta Merger Alines property, where it is again intersected Col-umbus-Re- ct ct C I T where minig is a chief industry. Since 1868 Utah has been one of the nations leading metal producing states, its output to date having a value of more than $1,417,600,000.00 from which dividends of approximately $275,000,000.00 have been paid by eighty-fiv- e companies. The world's biggest open cut copper mine, the Utah Copper, and the nations largest silver mines are in Utah. Among the states it ranks first in silver production, second in copper production; third in lead production and sixth in the production of gold. The industry furnishes 85 per cent of the freight traffic originating in the state and its mines, mills ar.d smelters furnish employment for 18,-0men, totaling a payroll of approximately $30,000,000.00 annually. The mineral wealth of the state is enormous. Utah has been described by .competent engineers as the greatest mineralized area in th world. In addition to the precious and metal deposits there are vast stores of known iron and coal deposits, the worlds largest alunite deposits, which are rich in potash and aluminum; immeasurable tonnages of oil shales, which government reports estimate 00 semi-precio- us contain from the 42,800,000,000 barrels of oil and 500,000,000 tons of ammonium sulphate.
