Show THE CITIZEN 12 In the matter of the tariff, the pres- ident made it known that he stands as firmly today as he ever has In favor of a tariff that would protect the citizens of the country, no matter what section is involved. He desires that the workman shall be given such protection as will enable him to receive wages that will provide ample comforts for him and his family. He is for the protection of the American wage scale and the American standard of living, which is the highest in the world. The inaugural address of President Coolidge was delivered with characteristic simplicity and earnestness. It was the kind of message that the people of the United States expected him to deliver. It was a reaffirmation of his confidence in him, as expressed by the millions of people who voted for him in November, 1924. a longing for something fresh and green, and spinach, watercress and rubarb seems to fill the bill when it comes to eating. One is overwhelmed with ambition to do something useful. Mother finds an outlet for her energy by cleaning house. She attacks carpets and curtains and ceilings impartially and energetically and rids them of smoke and dirt. Father pokes about with a shovel and rake in the yard and determines he will have the place in the neighborhood before he gets through. There is a feeling of relief in changing from the heavy clothes of Winter to the lighter clothes of Spring, and with the change of clothing there comes a change of mind and we face the future more optimistically and hopefully. Spring is resurrection and life. best-lookin- g SPRING IS HERE A PROBLEM. By Clara J. Fagergren The law of nature is that all things growing take on a new lease of life in the Spring. The buds burst forth on the the trees; the grass peeps up from the ground, the bushes and shrubs suddenly stand arrayed in new foliage; and the birds preen and primp and prepare to build new nests. Animals shed their shaggy winter coating and frisk about, conscious that the dreary season is over. Brooks and rivers loosened from their bondage of ice whirl and swirl and sing their song of gladness at being free. A feeling of restlessness and gladness saturate the plodding human beings. When the balmy Spring winds have melted the snow and ice one is filled with ambition to go out and conquer other worlds. The old Ford is overhauled and painted and the family goes exploring the country. One has If a body meet a body with a quart of rye, Should a body take a toddy, een as you and I, Or should a body call a cop and say, Arrest this guy? Thats a problem oft presented by a quart of rye. American Saturday Night. But amazing as these figures may seem, there is every indication that they will be surpassed er.ch year for many years to come. The more the telephone is used the more useful and necessary it becomes. No men living are more worthy to be trusted than those who toil up from poverty; none less inclined to take or touch aught which they have not honestly earned. (Trade Press.) j .
