The wedding took place on September 17, at the temple On the evening of the wedding day, the mother of the bride gave a reception for all the bridal guests. The marriage of Miss Alice Nelson and John Bennion Cannon took place Wednesday morning at the temple, Apostle Joseph Smith performing the ceremony. At the home of the bride on Seventh East, the mother of the latter entertained the couple and the bridal party, immediately following the ceremony. Between four and seven the same evening, a reception was held ' at the home of the bridegroom, before the couple left on their wedding trip, to parts unknown. Mrs. L. B. McComick and daughter will leave this week for New York, where they will sail on the 27th of the present month for France. Miss Margaret will spend the winter at school in Paris, where she will enter an academy on the Rue de Lubec. Miss Annie Hogan and Mr. George Hamilton were united in marriage on Thursday of the past week, Apostle Reed Smoot performing the ceremony in the Salt Lake temple. Receptions were held at the homes of both the contracting parties. Honoring Miss Maurine Bennion, who is about to leave for a year in school in an eastern institution, Miss Doone Smoot gave a luncheon, at which the mother of the hostess assisted. Twenty guests were in attendance. Miss Afton Williams gave her trous- seau tea this week. The home was decorated with flowers in pink and lavender shades. The Young Mens Republican club meeting held at Magna last week proved a success in every way. A large crowd of Republicans from this city went to the meeting, via the automobile, and all those who attended hope that Magna will soon have another meeting. The meeting wa3 conducted under the supervision of J. H. Garrett, president, and M. H. Kriebel, secretary, who were aided by several of the Magna Republicans. James H. Waters, former state chairman of the Democratic party, says that the Democratic success in this state depends upon finance, organization and common sense in management. He has tendered the Democratic committee the use of the presidents suite at the Newhouse hotel for state headquarters, and will furnish additional rooms for the womens organizations Harden Bennion, well known citzen of this state, has been named Democratic state chairman to succeed Jas. The lime sold in the United States in 1923, as recorded in the Geological Survey, Department of the Interior, amounted to 4.069,830 short tons, valued at $39,934,707, an increase of 12 per cent in quantity and 20 per cent in value over 1922. Lime sold for construction work increased 15.5 per cent, that sold for chemical use 16 per cent, and that sold for liming land decreased 14 per cent. Hydrated lime, which is included in the total given, increased 10 per cent. BITUMINOUS. Both the quantity and the value of asphalt and related bitumens produced in the United States increased in 1923 according to a statement issued by the Department of the Interior, based on figures compiled in the Geological Survey. The sales by producers were as follows: Native asphalt and related bitumens, 400,236 short tons, valued at $2,885,631; asphalt made from domestic petroleum, 995,654 short tons, valued at $13,060,174; asphalt made from Mexican petroleum, 1,378,722 short tons, valued at $16,840,045. The imports of ozokerite and other mineral waxes were 4,856,357 pounds, valued at $213,407, a decrease of more than 40 per cent in both quantity and value from the imports ni 1922. The exports of unmanufactured asphalt were 72,628 short tons, valued at Other High Types of Pavement 4,825.1 Miles Thus CONCRETE outranks all other high types of pavements in the ratio of nearly 3 to 1.
