Show THE CITIZEN 10 . October 7, with matinees on Thursday and Saturday. The role of Ming Toy served to elevate Fay Bainter to stardom and many people who have seen Anne Berryman in this role in other cities have expressed the opinion that had she been the first one chosen to play this role that her success would have been as great and by now her name would have been as well known to American theatregoers as is that of Fay Bainter. The opening scene of East is West shows a love boat In China, where pretty Chinese maidens are sold to the highest bidders. It lends itself to a most clever and pleasing stage setting and is one of the most colorful scenes ever introduced in any play. After the first scene the action of the play takes place in America and the appeal of Ming Toy dominates the entire action. East is West lends itself well to the casting of the Ralph Cloninger company and a most finished performance is to be expected. GOSHEN SAID (Continued from Page 6.) organization that draws its funds from the tithing paid into its coffers by all its people? He must pay taxes on everything he has; but the church is exempt from taxation; he has only his own ability to put into his business; the church has an army of workers who are instructed by those who speak with the authority of God. . The day of commercial independence will never come to Utah until there is a law passed that shall provide that whenever any church engages in any commercial business that then all its property shall be taxed the same as all other business property be taxed. And there isn't a citizen in the state who has the interest of the state at heart who will make any objection to this proposal. The American nation was founded upon the principles of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and the absolute separation of church and state. And there is no good American citizen who opposes any of these principles. Let the Mormon church through its leaders announce and guarantee that it will follow these principles; that it will keep its influence out of the schools of the state; that it will not engage in the business affairs of the state then we will have peace In Utah. Then we will all unite to build up the state for the welfare of all its citizens. Until this is done the American party, is a necessity. MEMBERS OF DUCK CLUB HAVE EXCELLENT SHOOTING No Place to. Shoot in This County Outside of Duck Clubs; Good In the Selection of Your Territory Available. The duck hunting season opened In Utah with splendid shooting in spots. Members of duck clubs on the whole had a good days sport, but the boys who were not members of clubs had nothing to brag about and many of them will not attempt another shoot this year. All the best sloughs which are ideal for duck sloughs are incorporated in duck hunting clubs, and there is very little left for the outsider in this county. The boys who have automobiles and can get away for two or three days at a time can shoot on the Bear river on the public shooting ground, where shooting ought to be good this Safety of Principal 4 should be the first consideration. i There is still plenty of ground left for good shooting grounds west of the present duck clubs, and which extends from Saltair to nearly the mouth of the Jordan river. There is a natural chain of dry slough beds which could be filled wtih water and which would create a new duck hunting ground. The state ought to turn this territory into a shooting ground for the Salt Lake county boys. The surplus water which is running into the Great Salt Lake near Garfield could probably be secured for this chain of lakes. It would make the noith end of the county the best duck hunting grounds in this neck of the woods, and it would also create a larger breeding ground which would add to the value of the other adjoining, clubs. Then, if a lease could be secured at a cheap rental of the chain of sloughs starting at Decker lake and going west to the Copper plant and then for a mile north, we would have an ideal shooting, ground. It wouid not be amiss for the Salt Lake County Fish and Game association to look into this matter to see if something cannot be done towards providing a hunting ground for the boys who are willing to pay the state license, but who cannot afford to belong to clubs.
