Just what the object of Europe is to disarm the citizens of this country through legislation has not been disclosed. However, some of our Americans who love Europe more may be acquainted with the facts of the case. As a rule Americans are well trained with the use of the pistol, rifle and shot gun, and this is, probably one of the big reasons why Europe would like to see Americans disarmed and purchase European cutlery with which to carve themselves. Take it in France, Germany and Italy, and many of the other countries the youths are trained in the expert use of the sword and knife. In those countries the robber generally cuts the heart out of his victim and goes on his way. Or the would-b- e assassin makes a bomb and throws it into a crowd, killing many and crippling others for life. Just because the criminal in the United States resorts to the pistol to do his dirty work is no reason why the pistol should be abolished when 99.9 of the people who have firearms are law abiding citizens. The robber also uses the automobile for quick work which makes his capture tenfold harder to secure, and ten times more people are killed with the automobile every year than with the pistol. Are we then also to do away with the automobile because some unscrupulous and criminally inclined people make use of the auto in their nefarious business? If Europe could disarm Americans, our next generation would s, the same as they have in Europe. be a tribe of The Scotland Yard officer visited nearly every police chief of the United States and there planted his seed deep and fertile. The breeding is of foreign origin but the hatching is to be done in the United States and it appears that we have a set of willing tools to do the work. The police chiefs who met in convention at New York City during the week have taken up the cry and now condemn the pistol as a curse of the United States, and they urge the limiting of arms making and the sales thereof. Back to the bow and arrow and the dark ages as quickly as we can go, and this is where we are going unless a stop is put to this European propaganda which is daily undermining our American rights. When the people first came to this country they had to carry firearms to. protect themselves from the Indian savages. Aye, they even carried their firearms to church and stacked them military fashion where they could be taken the instant alarm was sounded of an attack. Those days have come and gone. Now, however, the citizens are compelled to install arsenals in their homes and carry pistols at night to protect their lives and property from the vicious attacks of thieves and bandits. If a police officer stood watch at every home and a police officer accompanied us on all deep-roote- molly-coddle- J 5 law-abidi- ng our trips we would now not have any use for firearms as far as protection went. New York state several years ago made it a crime to have a pistol in ones possession. Has crime decreased in that state? What have the officials to say because of the many people killed with the pistol? Do they admit that they are not capable of handling the situation, or are the thieves and robbers so well organized that they are beyond the control of the law? New York ought to at least set an example for the better with this freak law but she nearly leads the world. in crime, if she is not the leader. Just think of a citizen, one who has never even thought of doing an injustice to any one and one who has walked as the law has dictated, and then just because he has a pistol in the house, the police officers come, break down the doors, arrest him as an undesirable criminal and a man who should be behind the bars. Good heavens, what are we coming to? To the average and ordinary layman, it appears as if the criminals have organized and are ruling our country. That it is their purpose to now disarm us in order that they may walk in upon us at any time of day or night and take whatever pleases them. Are we to have another amendment to the Constitution of the United, States, which gives every American citizen the right to purchase and carry firearms for the purpose of protecting himself and his property, which shall take the right away from us also? There is another angle to the situation. We have our rifle clubs, shotgun clubs and pistol clubs, all of which maintain ranges and trap grounds, and to which the best citizens of the country belong. If every man and woman would join one of these organizations, we would have no need of police chiefs or officers because there would be no crime. Go to any penitentiary in the country, and comb it from one end to the other, and you will not find one inmate there who has ever belonged to a sportsmans organization. A man who is a sportsman is a American, a good citizen and a gentleman at all times. It is not only time to put a stop to this European propaganda but to also put out of office every man who is not an American born, or any one who believes that wc should copy after Europe. It is time for all good Americans to strike while the iron is hot, and for once and for all time show foreigners that we wish to work out our salvation unmolested in our own way and we will not interfere with them. Under the Constitution of the United States, this country has become the greatest nation on earth. There are many who are jealous of us now, and hey have started to undermine us. The most deplorable of all is that we have some Benedict Arnolds left. Let us get rid of them, and remain the country of freedom which the Pilgrims provided for. If our police chiefs are so anxious to eliminate crime with the pistol, why do they not advocate that any man or person who commits a robbery, whether it is a holdup or breaking into a house, law-abidi- ng red-blood- ed 0 |
