The company owns the Dalton and Lark, Brooklyn and Yosemite mines at Bingham, and the Victoria and controls the Eagle & Blue Bell and American Star mines at Tintic. Bulk of the companys profits this year and last year has come from its Tintic operations. obtIn addition to the excellent results ained at the Victoria and Eagle & Blue Bell mines the company has during recent months opened a promising ore deposit in the American Star property from which considerable good ore has been shipped. The American Star is a small area of about twenty acres Matwedged between the Granite and hilda claims of the Chief Cons, company.. The Granite claim of the Chief Cons, was highly productive and exploration of American Star is holding tonsiderable interest to see if it will prove to be a big north and south ore channel that will continue south into thePlutus ground, of which control :s held by Chief Cons. A strong ore showing in the Grand Central is being follThis exowed north to the Plutus. ploration work is being followed with interest to see if these two zones connect and make another big Tintic ore ent I I I channel. The Grand Central property is said be responding splendidly to the ex 10 STATE ft tROAOWW tensive development campaign mapped out by the Chief organization. Shipments are coming along in nice shape and while no such statement has yet appeared in the Chief Cons, reports, it is generally understood that the newly acquired mine is now showing' good FOUNDED 1864 rain Angle-Compoun- d i ft i profits. depletion ore Ml 11 Timbermen engaged in retimbering the main shaft of the Eureka Hill property, now a part of the Chief Consolidated company, are making exception-all- y good progress, according. to Man. ager Cecil Fitch. The old shaft is in such shape that all timbers must be replaced before any mining can be taken up, but this piece of work is being speeded up to such an extent that it is almost safe to say that the Eureka Hill workings will be reopened to lessees within the next thirty days. Timbers are being placed in the shaft at the rate of thirty feet per day, and if there is nothing to delay the work the 1,100 level ought to be reached by the 25th of the coming month. This week a station set was installed at the 100 level. While the Eureka Hill shaft extends some distance below the 1,300 level, it is the intention of the Chief Cons, people to retimber only to the 1,100 level before allowing miners to enter the old workings. The lower portion of the shaft can be retimbered later without interfering with the regular mining work. SCRAP COPPER.' The indestructibility of copper is both an element of strength and of weakness. The fact, says the Boston News Bureau, that the metal in the form of wire, sheets, castings, brass, etc., can be remelted and the ccpper reclaimed without serious qual.ty deterioration means, of course, that the market for new copper cannot but feel the competition of this secondary copper, as it is known in the trade. At times this competition is very severe. It will surprise many copper share investors to know that during the past five years the new product of the mines has been compelled to meet a total supply of over 3,000,000,000 pounds of reclaimed copper, an amount equal to over 30 per cent of the total primary production of American refineries for that period. Measured against strictly United States mine production, the percentage would be nearer 40 per cent. ma-chin- SAN JUAN OIL FIELD. persistent rumor that oil has been discovered in the Cramner lease on the Organ Rock structure, San Juan district, has not been verified, but the wide diffusion of the report indie tes that it may have some basis of fact.
