In only three of these forty-sicities is there any dispute between employers and the typos. Forty-threcities have signof the forty-sied agreements with the union calling the for the Saturday half-daweek. Denver is one of the cities where this forced agitation still shops there persists, though thirty-siare- working (peacefully with union agreements. ..Salt Lake and Ogden are still under the blighting influence of thpprofessional disturbers of industrial peace and are paying the penalty in a score of ways bad business, decreasing population, uncertainty, unemployment, customers compelled to accept poor product, long delays, etc; Most employing printers are to be acquitted of blame in the matter of forcing this disturbing condition upon the community. They, . like their former employees, ' were simply the victims of a movement created and kept alive by people who knew nothing, of the fine spirit that had always ruled in the printing offices having agreements with the Typographical Union. It was a case of drive out the union or suffer business and credit boycott at the behest of people who had not one dollar invested in the. industry and who were incapable of understanding or believing that here was a business that was getting along in the most harmonious manner; where employer and employee felt and acted like partners, each working for the welfare of the other and all realizing that their mutual interests would be best conserved by maintaining the peaceful and harmonious relations that for decades had brought growth and prosperity to the union shops where the open, shops had failed and disappeared. ' Some, time the wilful disturbers of the .peace will receive the public disapproval their acts have merited and peace and prosperity will again be permitted to reign in printing circles. Since more than 520 of the cities of the country have returned to this sane and settled wqy of doing business it is fair to assume that the few communities where disturbance, still remains will soon get into line in order that they, too, may participate in' the prosperity that is .the portion .of the cities not disturbed by the Amer' ican" plan agitation. s printing - at reasonable prices, delivered when promised (not an hour and a half after the opera begins) can still be had from a num . - .
