And it is well that every mine manager in Utah y stockholder in a mining company in Utah read this story carefully oaks in. manager of a certain little company had an assessment notice for m. He secured a rate under The Surveys reasonable charges, which 0 only about 30 cents each certificate. itockholder objects to such a low charge, but he naturally kicks is forced to pay $1.00 to $2.50 each certificate when these delinquent re placed in certain dailies. Jumps at Cheap Fly. lis wise (?) manager of a little property opened his mouth and made bate like a sleepy fish for a camouflaged fly and what will be the d 'ill get no thanks from his stockholders for his trouble in saving them, a few cents, but will get kicks for putting the noti(53 in an with neither circulation nor standing in the mining world. His ers will complain that the notice was not published in their paper, rey, the only natural channel for all such mining notices. And this n the road to lose the friendship and assistance of a journal that may be invaluable to him and his company. Illegal Economy. le way, this same crowd, again obsessed by a spirit of ultra economy, mother assessment delinquent list run in a paper one time short of red time as per interpretation of the leading lawyers. That being t lie s made under such a notice would be illegal, and if stockholders who .their stock sold out from under them under such conditions woul1 le investigation they could lvpock that sale .into a cocked hat and out-of-jhe- et stock. yheir ! U mine managers are wise; some are shortsighted will anyone have i ander in placing this class of mine managers in their proper groove? y wise and pound foolish what an indictment for this enlightened ige! fact that The Citizen lists among its most respected clientele 11 of the mining companies operating in the state impels it lent on the above feeble attempt to threaten and blackmail 1 Mining Fraternity. The character of the Western Mineral its manifest aims and objects, are so far removed from those Zitizen. that the childish tirade of a disgruntled promoter (if and unlisted stock would not merit attention, if the reputa mining men of the state and their obvious inalienable right to publish their assessment and delinquent notices in the paper or periodical of their choice, were not questioned in scurrilous, tion of well-know- n blackmailing and insinuating language. The whole affair hinges on the fact that the management of the Western Mineral Survey has tried, consistently, the few short months it has been alive, to append to its sucker list all the mine owners of Utah. Failing in this it now resorts to predatory journalism, hoping to thus gain its point. It is more likely to prove a boomerang, from the fact that the article published above, while apparently specific in application, is really meant for any and all mine owners who refuse to feed the kitty. Chickens come home to roost and often bring strange birds with them. The plaint of the plaintiff that it is running legal notices cheaper than any other paper is all bosh. An assessment notice and the follow-u- p delinquent notice published in The Citizen costs the stockholders, for whom the Western Mineral Survey seems so recently solicitious. much less than 30 cents per each certificate, the price it quotes as especially attractive. .Mine managers are, indeed, wise. Too wise, it is presumed, to be long bamboozled by a crafty crowd, engaged in publishing a curb-stoc- k dingy sheet designed solely for special perusal by a list of nincompoops, as the manipulators of such stocks usually designates them, and evidently to be used as a publicity club to garner- - the sheckles, and also to besmirch the good name and character of reputable citizens. Again The Citizen begs perdon for having taken notice of a feeble attempt to blackmail men of noted character and who are among the foremost promoters and wealth producers of the great state of Utah. It seems that a moncron would have been more circumspect than to weekly display such asinine pique and animosity as the Western Mineral Survey indicates is one of its chicfcst assets. m J c It is true that there arc just as many good fish in the sea as have ever been caught, but the fellow whose proposal of marriage has been declined with vigor reflects that much depends on the fisherman. And now it appears that the ship of state is not as bad off the state of shipping. ?
