Show DOUGLAS GARBE WRITES FROM SOUTH DAKOTA From The ManU Manti Messenger Elder Douglas Garbe son of Mr and Mrs Frank Garbe has written of his missionary labors In the North Central Stat States s Mission Mission Mission Mis Mis- sion and to give us his new address which Is Box Flandreau Flandreau Flandreau Flan- Flan dreau South Dakota His letter follows Dear Mr Cox Im I'm awfully sorry that I have not written before and thanked you for sending me the Messenger Messenger Messenger Messen Messen- ger each week I surely appreciate appreciate appreciate it and always look forward to reading it in the few spare minutes we have In reading the paper the Messenger Messenger Messenger Mes Mes- I can almost picture myself myself myself my my- self right there in town once again The happenings and news of people back home are always interesting I have been transferred from Pipestone Minn to Flandreau South Dakota where I 1 am now laboring Flandreau is a smalltown smalltown small smalltown town of 2000 people near the eastern border of the state Itis Itis It Itis is quite comparable to Manti Mantl except for the major difference that there are none of ot those beautiful big mountains anywhere anywhere anywhere any any- where near The country is relatively relatively rel relatively rel- rel flat in all directions We have been having some good weather back here but it itIs itIs itis is real really y dry The leaves have almost all aU fallen from the trees I am thinking today of the deer hunt that is beginning back home This kind of weather and this time of year always make me think of that hunt To bring hunting to my mind more strongly strong y today is the beginning beginning- of the pheasant hunt in South Dakota I believe this state Is the the pheasant hunters' hunters paradise At t least it looks that way yay to me because I have never seen so many pheasants in my life and to top that off most of them are cocks The season here lasts for 51 days with a bag limit of 4 cocks per day How does that sound to you Truthfully I have been tempted tempt tempt- ed to send home and get the old shotgun but Im I'm afraid aid I better wait until I get back home to tot t take ke in another hunt Any hunting hunting hunting hunt hunt- ing I do back here will have tobe to tobe tobe be done by proxy by someone else Before I left home I remember remember remember ber of telling a number of peo pea people people pie how I was going to take takeI advantage of the good pheasant I hunting in the Dakotas Now when I cant can't take in the hunt I I can hear them laugh especially especially espe espe- dally Kenneth Howell He said You may be right in the midst of the best hunting but cant can't hunt I gues Id I'd better leave hunting and let you know how I the he work is coming I have really enjoyed my misI mission mis mis- I slon sion thus far and I especially I like ike working here in this town The people here are very receptive receptive receptive recep recep- I tive and give you that hometown home hometown hometown town feeling It is wonderful I to be able to talk to people in all walks of life Iffe and leave the message of the restoration o othe of the gospel with them We are sent out here bere to teach and not notto n no noto t tte to te be taught but you canno cannot teach or talk to people without learning earning a few things yourself I have certainly learned a lo lot while out here I guess I better close now I want to thank you again fo for sending me the Messenger I I hope all is fi fine e back in Manti Manta Tell everyone hello for me Sincerely Elder Douglas Garbe 0 0 |
