THURSDAY UTAH-EY,5- BT COLORADO INTERESTS CHARGE MISUSE OF RIGHTS ON PUBLIC DOMAIN Misuse of entry rights under the stock grazing homestead law is alleged by Colorado interests in asking the withdrawal from entry of all public lands in six Colorado eounties along the Utah border, says Mondays Salt Lake Tribune. A federal grazing district is proposed for regulation of the forage resources involved. Dr. Itay Lyman Wilbur, secretary of the iuterior, thinks enough of the proposal to ask Governor George H. Dorns reaction to the suggestion. Before the department takes action, he writes, I would appreciate having your views, as the problem is one which you may have encountered in your state. Undoubtedly the situation as presented is one which needs clarification by federal legislation. The secretary submits a letter received by him from Frank Delauey of Glenwood Springs, district attorney for western Colorado, outlining the situation and the proposed remedy. Unrestricted grazing of the public lauds and present abusea of the stock grazing homestead law, aays Delanthreaten the existence of the ey, stock grazing industry in northwestern Colorado. Large tracts of land are frequently entered upon, without any intention on the part of the entrymen to perfect title. The lands are overgrazed to the point of permanent impairment of the natural forage growth. They are then relinquished, and the nomadic livestock men, who resort to this practice, find other grazing lands. In this manner, the established residents and owners of the improved ranches in the vicinity of the public domain areas are deprived of the range on which they depend. Without it, numerous valuable ranches, situ- &duertising Have you noticed that successful merchants are heavy advertisers. That ts the secret of their business . Too many merchants do not give advertising a square deal. They are content to advertise periodically, but immediately expect extravagant returns which are not forthcoming . Successful advertising is based on repett tlon and quality of merchandise . Nationally known products and firms have become such by day after, day and week after week advertising. Many Price and Carbon county merchants are mistaking an opportunity for what they may think is an additional expense. They are passing up a sure bet. Your advertising will be successful, dependent on two things, coverage and reader interest. THE SUN has BOTH. Job sprinting Not a small part of our business is lob Printing. Delaney asks the withdrawal of all public domain in Moffat, Rio Blaneo, Garfield and Mesa eounties, all of borwhich are on the der contiguous to Dagget, Uintah and Orand eounties in Utah, and also includes Eagle and Pitkin counties in the same Colorado river basin, but interior Colorado eounties. He adds that Congressman Taylor of Grand Junction, Colo., will introduce legislation to compete with eastern sweat shop prices, but we can and do compete with Salt Lake City, Provo and Grand Junction. Also do we compete successfully in quality of work with any job shop in the country. We pay our workmen living wages which they spend with Carbon county merchants. The Sun has invested a considerable sum of money in the best equipment it can buy. Our is plant up-to-da- Utah-Colora- to organize a grazing district there, similar to districts whieh have been organized in Montana and California. If the department does not ears to recommend as extensive a withdrawal as he asks, he urges that at least all lands in the Book Cliff area be withdrawn from entry. That area extends into Utah and the lands, he says, have been classified by the geological survey. and te modem in every respect.
