This is army composed of men snd women who have volunteered their services to help in putting over this big campaign. In discussing his Roll Call organization R. R. Kirkpatrick, the connty chairman, stated the dollar membership as usual will predominate, but he wishes to call this publics attention to the faet that $40 of eaeh $5 membership and $9.50 of eaeh $10 membership will stay in the loeal Carbon county chapter, while fifty cents from eaeh membership is sent to National headquarters at Washington to finance the national program of the Red Cross. this . The loeal chapter will again year secure the services of a competent Red Cross nurse for. its public health nursing course. A quiet but d campaign against illness and suffering is constantly being earned on by the American Red Crews. Ins traction in home hygiene and care of the sick waa given almost thirty-thre- e thousand women last year. One hundred women in Carbon county availed themselves of this course. There are twenty-seve- n thousand disabled veterans still in government hospitals who look to the Red Cross for entertainments and personal comforts which make hospital life endurable, This statement waa made today by Mrs. B. W. Dalton of the local Red Cron chapter in discussing the coming membership roll eall. In addition, the Red Cross, through its workers in camps, hospitals and chapters, serves a monthly average of 55,-0men and their families. This work consists pf filing government claims, obtaining hospital care of the siek and helping solve person-il'sn- d family problems. Material relief to the ram of hundreds of thousands of dollars has been given, hut more important still is the help that has restored the courage of numberless men and women and Mept their families intact. During the past year emergency re lief was extended by the American Red Cross to 90,000 sufferers in a hundred and two disasters. These disasters extended over a hundred and forty-sevcounties in thirty-eigstates and involved a total expenditure of $1,320,766 on the part of the National Red Cross and its chapters. Carbon county was the scene of. two of these disasters caused by explosions at Standard villa and New Peerless, while in 1927 the National Red Cross gave the local chapter over a thousand dollars for the relief and rehabilitation work after the Price River flood, according to a statement made by Mrs. B. W. Dalton, present chairman of the local chapter. The National Bed Cross looks to the membership fees from its annual Roll Call to replace the expenditures from its general funds. Kirkpatrick and his army of workers confidently expect to roll up a membership total that will be a credit to the community. wide-sprea- 00 en ht . Carbon Gridders Go to Vernal Friday When Coach Vernon Merrill takes his undefeated Carbon high gridders to Vernal to meet the Basinites Friday, he expects a tough fight on his hands to keep the slate clean. Merrill is not underrating Coach Carl Davis boys in the slightest degree, but he does expeet his boys to win the game after a stiff battle. Vernal has a good team this year and Carbon mnst be good to have defeated all teams played this year, so it looks as if there will be a real scrap. The Carbon team is handicapped by several injuries. Webb and Stamataku are suffering from hip injuries while Hutchinson has a eharley horse. It is thought, however, that all these man-wil- l be able to play Friday. . The squad of thirty-fiv- e men will leave Price Thursday morning with the intention of bringing back another scalp to add to the Miners growing collection.
