M Beal who returned return return- ed recently from an Church History tour has listed some o othe of the highlights of the trip a as follow We crossed 17 states and visited visited visited vis vis- many cities and other places places pla pla- places ces of interest in several o of them We arrived in Denver the first night two hours late My son Karl and two small grandchildren were waiting t to take me home with them forthe for forthe forthe the night Denver is one o othe of the most beautiful cities we vis vis- vis I discovered this land of America America Am America Am- Am erica is as beautiful both na naI naturally naturally na- na I and otherwise as any anyplace anyplace an place we visited in Europe last year Even west Kansas usually usual usual- ly very dry was green But w we dId see many acres of c crops r o 0 p s which were dead from bein being g water Independence Missouri wa wavery was very beautiful and Liberty Liberty Jai Jail l t was just the opposite mos most t dismal We noted the beautiful l estates outside Louisville Ken Ken- tucky At Williamsburg Va much i of our national history has been preserved and the grandeur an and d beauty of our country's beginning beginning beginning begin begin- ning are brought to the attention attention attention atten atten- tion of any visitor willing t to spend a little time there Back to Richmond Va through the Alleghany Mountains Mountains Mountains Moun Moun- and later the Blue Ridge e Mountains covered with luxuriant luxuriant luxuriant lux lux- growth and with th the e and Ohio Rivers alternating al alternating alternating al- al on the other side of the highway We passed through White Sulphur Springs sight of the former Summer Whitehouse i and on to Washington D. D C. C There were so many things to I se see seq and do here A bus load of Hawaiian entertainers I was in our out caravan of three buses They are arc so friendly and relaxed yet proud Some of us spent some sometime sometime sometime time on their bus and some of them visited on ours We learned learned learn learn- ed to love these people who are of the pure blood of Israel At church we met Elder and Sister Ezra Taft Benson As she f had filled a mission to Hawaii she expressed a wish to hear the Hawaiians sing and they obliged v ith We Thank Thee 0 O God Cod For a Prophet The next ev evening evening ev- ev ening of us spent a couple ol of hours on the back porch and lawn lawa at the Benson home where the tle Hawaiians entertained for foran foran foran an hour A visit to the Washington Washington Wash Wash- ington J Jefferson fferson and Lincoln memorials was also very worth- worth while A conducted tour of the United United Un Un- fled Nations building was tops of our stay in New York al although although although al- al I though we did and saw many ether interesting things in the I I i fear days we were there Then it was Rochester Palmyra Palm- Palm f yra a visit to the Joseph Smith i family home and the S Sac Sacred a c r red redI e 3 j I Grove and at night perfect wea- wea 1 I it ther er for the Hill Cumorah Pant Pa- Pa Pa 1 cant nt th the climax of our church I tour The costuming staging reading and all nIl were very professional pro pro- It fissional beautiful and impressive sive live Falls was all and more than we had expected Our evening trips on the Potomac Potomac Po Po- Po- Po tomac around Manhattan Island and finally on Lake Michigan where here Chicago showed to the very best were all anyone could ask mk We visited the Kirtland Temple Temple Tem Tern pie on our way to Chicago then Carthage Jail Jai where the Prophet Pro Pro- pet phet Joseph and his broth brother r Hy- Hy rum were vere murdered Our own missionaries were in charge there and this was a very v very ry sacred experience Then on to Nauvoo beside the great great Mississippi River It is truly beautiful country Al Although Although Al- Al though Nauvoo has dwindled from at the time the Saints lived there to only 1200 at the present time it is still interesting The Reorganized Church keeps up the home and burial place of the Prophet the Mansion House etc in first class condition Near Omaha we visited the grounds where are buried burled of the who died on the Mormon trail to the west On our way home we visited Boys Boys Town Nebraska a very worthwhile institution w where her e esome some homeless boys of all races and creeds are kept until graduated from high school almost al almost al- al most self supporting o o- o |
