Show Monday Fire Destroys Barn BarnA A fire Monday afternoon completely completely completely com com- destroyed the barn at atthe atthe atthe the Ivan Benson place not far from where the garage burned at the Lawrence Poulson home en cn May 24 And another And another fire in inthe inthe inthe the same neighborhood had scorched the pine lne tree at the former Phil Anderson Dave Paulsen way back place recent recent- l ly Mrs Benson had been out to the barn to get some grain for fora a mother pig and five baby pigs In a nearby pen after two o o clock She remained in the yard for sometime after that and there was no evidence of fire at that time About the time the siren sounded Phyllis Peterson daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph E. E Peterson came running to the Benson home bome to tell Mrs Benson the barn was on fire It was Phyllis who first saw it and turned In the alarm At that time the whole west end of the barn was ablaze and soon the flames had spread to the entire barn and the adjoining adjoining adjoining adjoin adjoin- ing pig pen Firemen and others were able to get the mother pig and litter out of the pen i also the family cow away from I the barn Cause of the fire is unknown but bits of food indicate that thata a picnic fire might have been started near the Benson barn recently Mrs Benson states Fire Chief f Spencer Olsen said he would estimate the damage at and there was no in insurance In- In The barn contained about 35 bales of hay a ladder some tools grain etc Cinders from the Benson barn were carried to adjoining property property property pro pro- perty and firemen estimate they put out hundreds and possibly a thousand small fires at the theR R Reed ed Noyes yard and on t the h e buildings And so Mr and Mrs Noyes join loin with Mr and Mrs Benson in extending a hearty thanks to o the fire tire department for doIng doIng doing do- do Ing such a quick and good job n o |
