Owing to the peculiar conitnictioa iff our government the man who does bis full duty on that court must of necessity ba not only n great Jurist, but a great constructive ststesnian. It baa been our supreme good fortune as a nation that we have had on that court auch. Thera has been at times criticism of the court, but 1 think It would puzzle anyone to name an office, officer or Iniliiutloa of whom there baa been no criticism. And I think that thorn among us who have been In public life will be the first to say that while the criticism may not be always Juat. yet that It is always n good thing that the possibility of it should exist, and that the criticism should at times be exercised. It is astonishing how much anyone can profit even by unjust criticism; and so I am not going to waste sympathy upon the supreme court, because it occasionally In this manner share the fate of our common humanity.
