Soon Pursuant to the recommendation! of the epeclal committee appointed to into the advisability of purchasing voting machines, the city council at its regular meeting last night authorised the mayor and the city recorder to subscribe to the term of the contract furnished by the Standard Voting Machine company of Rochester. N. Y., for thirteen machines, the coat to be shared equally by the city and the county. The committee report stated that In the opinion of lit members the machines would ooon pay for themselves and would, in the long run, le a great saving to the city. The machines are to cost C5 each, or $4,225 for the thlrtiAn. They are to be paid for in yearly instalments of $825. Councilman Craig. Dickaon, Flygire and Thomas dissented on account of a provision in the oon tract to the effect that the machines are to remain the property of the company until all tha payments are made, according to the contract, and the company reserve! the right to seise and sell the machines If the provisions are not fulfilled in every particular. Harris and Charles Hollingsworth submitted claims for $250 each for auditing the city's books. When they were appointed as special auditor the council set aside $300 as their remuneration.
