The Ogden public schools are the recipients of an Intereating compliment from Professor David Gibbs, of Clark university at Worcester, Mass., one of America's greatest teachers. Some time ago the above named uniDr. versity, of which the Dea Stanley Hall is president, sent two Questions to the pupils of the school, to which all those who were classed above the fourth grade were asked to return a written answer. These were naked with a view to Improving the methods of teaching geography and to ascertain what is most needed In that branch of study. The Questions were: '1. If you could travel all you wished and go wherever you pleased, where would you go and what would you like to see? . About what things In geography do you meat like to study? Redick was attended by Attorney Captain Hulanlskl co rumoured the examination by placing on tbe witness stand Joeie Murphy, the girl who refused flatly to testify when questioned Friday of last week. Yeaterday she ansvered questions without reserve. She stated that her acquaintance with Redick dates back to the early part of December. .It sat fostered through a casual mooting on the siret-twhich later developed into a more Intimate acquaintance In wine rooms of a saloon on Wall avenue. Several times she visited Redirk's place of business and drank freely with him. This state of affairs continued until the last of the month, when one night Redick proposed that they go out for a buggy ride. To allay suspicion and hide from her folks her relation with the colored man, the buggy wi sent to the Murphy home, where Miss Josle took rhnrge of it and ostensibly went out for n short drive. Redirk a met, according to a plan, and the two, with brandy in plenty, started a ride that took them well over the dry and finally about seven blocks south of tha business district. During the ride, Redlck made Improper overtures to her. They remained out late that night and drank freely. Lessenger requested htr to narrate 11 details of tbe buggy ride. In an intense silence that affected court as well as the witness, she stated in a broken voice that the request wae too much for her strength to stand. Then defendant's attprney! endeavored n trick ber into an admission that her testimony was falt and contrary to statement that she had made to tbe officers. Under a rapid fire of questions she clung tenaciously to ber testimony and did pot contradict one lenience of It. Redlck grew buoyant end depressed by turns and nt the conclusion of Miss Murphy's statement, he lost nil Interest in the case and stoically faced his fata. In her testimony. Miss Murphy stated that she had been visited frequently by ber father, to whom she hsd given a promise that the would reform and attempt to live down Ihe repast Taking of testimony will beconsumed this afternoon. At tbe clusion of Redick'a hearing, the case of the City vs. Julius will be tnken up. k The preliminary trial of Jesse was resumed at 2:30 p. ra.
