With Party of Was Lying Asleep Countrymen Unaer a Tree When Deed Was Done. Northwester Theatrical Paeplt Have Now Added ths Two Cities t Their Big Circuit. With a gash eight inches long In the left aids of hla neck a Japanese was taken to the Japanese hospital in this city early last evening where the wound was dressed by Dr. M. Takeoka, who later announced that in hla opinion the patient would recover. The wound, which ie pronounced to be both painful and serious, was lull let ed by soma unknown parson, supposedly a tramp, while a party of Japs were sleeping upon the ground beneath a tree, at West Weber, about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. On account of tba members of the party not being able to apeak English it la a difficult matter to get the true version of the affair, but from what could ba learned last evening from different aourres, tba Japa were taking a nap beneath a tree at West Weber, near where a number of outfit ears wer: stored and which were used by employee of the railroad. While they slept some persons approached and inflicted tha wound and then made their escape, without giving the injured men or any of the others In the party an opportunity to see who they were. With the blood gushing from the wound the victim woke hla steeping companions, who did not even get sight cf their fellow countryman's assailant. The wounded man was mad: aa eomfortable aa possible and was shipped to Ogden on Snutnern Pacific passenger train No. 4 and taken to the After a conference leering over five the park and playhouses of the Utahns Amusement company her and in SaH Lake passed Into tha hand of the Northwestern Theatrical assoThe deal wa ciation, last evening. passed on the terms and figures aet down by tho directors of tha association, who accepted the Ogden part of the deal mainly to gain an entrance into Salt Lake without building a new On account of ths lateneis theater. of the hour when tha deal was consummated and tha further fact that the director! of the association left for the north on the 1:25 a. m. train, the consideration could not be learned. The meeting was held In the office of Kelly ft Herrick. The representatives of the North wm tern Theatrical association were: 'John Cort. general manager of tha assocla lion; D. P. S Avion, manager of Button's Opera Houle, Butte, Mont., and 1). L Weaver, manager of the Spokane theater. The U talma interests wen looked after by the board of directors. Coincident with the return of R. A. Irani, manager of the Grand Opera House, from Denver, where he, acting for the association, closed a deal whereby they have also gained an entrance Into that city, waa the arrival of tho above director of the affair of tho association who cam by the afternoon train. Immediately after a oonaultatlon with Manager Grant the, party mentioned above met and the negotiations were commenced. It appears that while tha Utahns people were more anxious to dispose of the Balt Lake house, they found that they could not book the shows that they desired for this place, with but one week's play.whlle with the bouse fa Belt Lake and a two weeks' Job the belter part of th talent could be secured. It wee, therefore, concluded to dispose of both properties. The directors made known to tha Utahns people that they would go north on tho midnight train, leaving It up to them whether or not they would accept the term laid down. This they eventually did and the addition of these twp. houses give the association a circuit of 80 playhouse, Ineluding such cities as Kan see City, Denver, Salt lake, Butte, Spokane, Portland and Ban Franclaco, all of which aro one week atand. The rest of tha circuit Is apparently mad up of smaller cities which will ba one night tanda, and among wnich Ogden la numbered. However, this move means that Ogden will be given better theatrical! than ever before. The association now controls forty companies of thirty-fiv- e people each, and each dry on the circuit will have a different play each week. Locally this affeots tha Orand Opera Hon, while In the present Utahns house it la Intended to give a better aerie of playe and In tha summer time the summer theater will be run ag usual In the park. The enlarged circuit will handle a number of burlesque nnd musical extravaganzas. For tha present the Utahns people will continue to handle the two properties her and In Salt Lake. Manager Gram, who la tha representative for the association in this part of tho country, will leave for a month's visit to hit home In Connecticut and upon hi return will assume the management of the two bouses and parka Another fact in connection with tha meeting that leaked out, was to the effect that the Northwestern people had their architect here and in case the Utahns deal could not have been settled, he would have proceeded to Salt Lake, when It la stated that a location bad already been secured, and the preparation cf plana and specifications for the building of n new thedter commend'd. The closing of the deal, The liovevrr, offsets this move. money in the transaction will paaa tomorrow and will merit the final act tp the deni. Manager Grant, of the local house. In speaking of hla trip to Colorado, where he went to represent the association, stated that the amount paid for the Colorado Telephone building In Denver was 140,000, and that 130,000 additional was being spent in transforming It Into a pluynouae.
