James Weathers Bound Over to trict Court Scenes in Police Court Dis- That the divine quality of mercy often temper the stern decrees oi the law was evidenced in the police court yesterday, when James Weaiherspoon was arraigned on two charges of burglary. Because of his past good lile. the knowledge of which waa gaiued from people who knew him at. his home in Portland, Oregon, and for the sake of his family, who teel keenly the disgrace of Weathers actions, the state consented to continue one complaint indefinitely; on the - other charge Weathers waived preliminary examination and Waa bound over to the district court in the sum of 250. It is understood by the officers that when he appears before Judge Howell he will plead guilty to the crime as charged. The complaint which waa continued Indefinitely was signed by Captain Charles C. Brown and alleges that on May 27th the defendant entered a room in the Lincoln hotel, occupied by S. II. Turner, and stole a watch of the value of 3u. Should a conviction be had on the other complaint, thia one will be withdrawn entirely. The complaint upon which he waa bound over alleges that he entered a certain room ia the BL Paul hotel, occupied by Mrs. Fanny Egginton, with the Intent of stealing and taking sway articles of value belonging to the aid Mrs. Egginton. Those who have followed the esse in this paper will remember that Mrs. Egginton had quite a scuffle with the burglar who eluded her grasp only to be captured after an exciting chase, In wttlch a great crowd took part. The certainty of her description was the reason, perhaps, that Weathers was held on her complaint. Mrs. Weathers and two children arrived In Ogden several days ago from their home in Portland, Oregon. The story which the wife tells had much to do with the spirit of leniency which Is being shown Weathers. Previous to leaving home some few months ago. Weathers was a good, hard working man, so his wife claims, and how the metamorphosis occurred is more than she can underatand. Richard Sullivan was arraigned before hla honor on the complaint of Sergeant Charles D. Pincock, charged with a disturbance of the peace. Detective Pender made a statement to the court to the effect that the defendant is alleged to have knocked down two women and a man Monday night, Mr. Pender further stated that these people would like to appear against the nun in tho afternoon. Judge Murphy disposed of the case upon the plea of tho defendant that he was guilty by aasesaing a fine of 920.00. ' Ilarry Smith, Arthur Isler and Chaa. Frey, three knights of tho road, were arraigned on the charge of trespass preferred by Special RaHoad Watchman Baker. They all pleaded guilty to the charge end when Mr. Baker told bout how they had made a bedroom out of a large refrigerator car, the rock pile loomed up strong before their eyes. When the Judge asked them if they had a desire to lesve the corporate limits of Ogden far behind them, the depressed look left their fscee they knew what that meant, for had they not been floated' from one town to the other before. A sentence of 90 days on the municipal rock pile wae imposed but that sentence was suspended long enough for them la make a getaway. at HAD Price. AN OUTING Deaf and Blind Enjoyed a ' Day at Lagoon.
