The attraction waa the Bcudder and Flygare teams and aa waa predicted the Scudderltea broke their losing streak, taking two out of the three games played. It wss a quite a coincidence for the winners to make the same total in the first and last games which they won. The losers made their lowest score game. The beat total score was made by Herrick, who toppled over 511 pins In the three games and F. Bcudder, was close second with CD! to hia credit. The company claims that it will have the only real refining plant on Great Balt Lake, that under the present system the salt la merely ground and cleaned, but la not refined. Patent automatic loaders have also been decided upon for loading the crude salt Into the cars. It la promised that the whole plant will be in operation by July 1. Horatio Adams at Boston has been elected president and A. W. Mansur, also of Donston secretary of the company. "The present system of labor there is very different to that which formerly existed In the islands. The Immigration laws have been made stricter and the result is that there la not so much emigration from China and Japan as formerly. Several years ago great numbers of Japs were procured by labor agents to work in the vast sugar plantations. The Japanese, who paid their paaaage to Hawaii and the other Islands, got them to sign a three years contract to work at a certain price per month, usually about $10 per month. If they broke the contract they were sent hack to Japan, having to pay their own passage. That kind of contract business la done away with and inure white labor la being emtime there ployed. At ihe present seems to be plenty of labor and no more than enough laborers to perform labor. i i I. ircas-iJhic- EASTERN POINTS ynr Ticket Jteadt via the Par Full Information A at the oa B. MOBELCY. Bcudder. Va Herein sna particular a few days In Ban Francisco we took the Paclllc piall boat 'Siberia, a magnificent vessel, for Honolulu. The voyage from Ban Francisco to the largest city In the Islands waa n pleasant one. I'pon our arrival there we found that the descriptions that had been given of the place were not overdone. It certainly Is a beautiful city. "The city of Honolulu la a natural port for the large steamers, occupies an important position In commerce and becomea an objective point for tourists. The comfortable and even luxurious accomodations of the fast steamers make the voyage to Honolulu from any direction a real pleasure. The city la Just south of the Tropic of Cancer and the climate la agreeably tropical. During our stay there we enjoyed fine weather; In fact It waa exceedingly pleasant because Ihe atmosphere waa not so humid as la usual. The average temperature on Waikiki Beach, Honolulu's favorite suburb, la 72 degrees, the maximum la about 89, which la about as equable a climate as can be found anywhere. Honolulu Commercially and socially baa made wonderful strides during the past three years. Ita population la close to the 50,000 mark. The city la becoming rapidly Americanized and the Improvements of a modern civilisation are bringing the dty rapidly to the front. Among, the many Improvements are a modern sewer system; a finely equipped trolley system of electric cars, convpying people from one extreme at the cltyto the other; the water works has been materially Increased; countless new buildings have been recently erected and sugar factories near the city have sprung up aa if by magic. The electric street car miles In length yaiem la twenty-on- e and In equipment and appointment!, will compare very favorably with any In the I'nlted Stales. "In the course of the next year or two great improvements will also be made In the telephone system. At tho present time their System of telephony la exceedingly poor. What have I to aay about the sugar industry? Well, it's an Interesting study and I made an Inspection of one of ihe biggest factoriee in the Islands. The sugar estates can be visited by means of filmed car or wagonette.
