' DIETRICH CASE Testimony Is Now In Evidence Will be Considered Later. Washington, March 21. The select committee of the senate, apiioinled to Investigate charges against Senator Dietrich, concluded taking testimony today, by examining U. S. Rohrer of Hastings. The witness was asked whether he had ever had a conversation with Mr. Dutton relative to the apiioininient of Hantman as deputy postmaster, iu which the question of paying $300 for Hamman's appointment, came up. Witness said that be never had had such a conversation along the lines suggested. The witness said he had bad a conversation with Dutton of a confidential character, but bad told no one of it, save his wife, lie asked Chairman Hoar if he would be compelled to divulge It. After some deliberation the committee stated that if it had no direct bearing on the quest Ion aa to whether there was a money consideration mentioned, in the conversation, he need not divulge the conversation. Witness waa excused. Senator Dietrich stated he bad intended calling Senator Fairbanks to testify to the fact that In November. 1900, when Senator Fairbanks waa in Hastings, he (Senator Dietrich) heJ requested Fairbanks, chalrtrau of the committee on public buildings and in the grounds, to insert a paragraph sum of omnibus bill appropriating a money for a public building at Hasting!.
