(From ihe Standard.) Editor Dally Evening Standard: In your issue of the U'tli instant you give a report of a performance which took plare at the First Ward meeting house, our fellow townsman Enoch Karr, being the performer. The report aaya: He gave a satisfactory scientific explanation with .practical demonstra tkma of the workings of Christian Science and spiritualism together with hypnotism. As to spiritualism and hypnotism cannot, nor do I desire to say; but do wish to say that through his ad vertising, and. in bis pretended effort' to expose fraud it would appear that he- had practiced it, and has possibly deceived some of the unsuspecting ones by his pretension to give a practical demonstration of the workings ' of Christ Ian Science, which we know Our fellow townsman" is not prepared to give. The student of Christian Science who is making practical ap knows plication of its teachings, whereof he speaks when he says Christian Seienre can bo "practically demonstrated only by those whose hearts are made ready for it through Ihe gospel of ktve; as set forth In the holy scriptures proclaimed by Jesus, wonderfully illuminated and illustrattext ed by the Christian Science book. II Is to him sacred, and could nut be put up for the amusement of a public Christian Science is a religion, with more than a million adherents. They have an organized church in Ogden which holds regular services at Its church edifice, corner Lincoln avenue and street, Sundays and Wednesday evenings, to which the public and especially inquirers are cordially infree vited. The church maintains reading rooms" at 212 Eccles Bldg., to which the public ia also Invited. At these rooms may be found all the Christian Science literature, including the text book, "Science and Health With Key lo the Scriptures," by Rev. Mary Baker G. Eddy; and free to tbe use at the public. Christian Scientists invite Investiwill gation of their teachings and gladly assist an honest seeker for Information, but they reasonably object to having their religion classified with and the spiritualism, hypnotism "black arts, because of the wrong impression it would leave, aa Chris-Wo- n Science is In no way related to either of them. If Mr. Farr Is Inclined to be fair he will ascertain somewhat of the facta concerning Christian Science, so easily obtainable, before he again undertakes a scientific explanation thereof. SL H. Tbe average attendance was 46 hoys and 22 girls, tne total number of inmates during the month. In the shoe, carpenter and blacksmith shops excellent results are being accomplished and a large amount of work being turned ouL Recommendations tor parolee were given for Kent McDonald and Milo Kemp, both of St. George, and Ellen Andrews of Salt lake City. The matter of extending tha city water system to the school waa discussed at some length. It appeared to the board that the health of the Inmates would be liable to lie impaired and some contagious disease would be apt to spread by the continuous use of the canal water. The present system of the waterworks company only goes to Seventh street, and the matter of having the line extended to the school will be dlacusaed later by the board in x meeting with the board of directors of tha water company. The health and safety of the inmates of the m bool depend upon the water system, and it is an absolute necessity which will be done at an early date. The etate auditor informed the board lhat he had credited the maintenance fund with $1,696.73 which amount had been received as rentals and salea of state reform school lands. Secretary Hollingsworth submitted the following: Statement showing appropriations made by fifth etate legislature for industrial school, covering the years 1903 and 1904, the amount of each appropriation expended to December 81, 1903, and the balance remaining unexpended on January 1, 1904.
