In Thursday morning's Issue of the Salt Lake Tribune considerable editorial comment Is Indulged In, In connection with the mix-u- p between Spry, Breeden and Howell during the time some of the cases were being tried In tho Second district court. It waa openly stated at the time Spry and Breeder came to Ogden and labored with Judge Howell, that they placed their persuasion for the Judge to make hla rulings on a partisan basis that would be of advantage to the Republican party. The' real farts In connection with the matter apparenly have not been given to the public, at least, the three men concerned In the deal, have not agreed upon any one explanation. Here Is what the Tribune says In parti There waa not the least concealment at the time, either of the visit, the motive for the visit, or uf the argument presented to Judge Howell as the reason why he should decide the motion, pending before him, cm partisan lines. It was frankly, confessed Breeden and by Attorney-GenerJudge Howell made a public statement to the same effect. And now Judge Howell is up for He confessed that' he allowed these persons to approach him with the political argument referred to, as to what he should do In a motion then pending In hla court. At the time Judge Howell Intimated very strongly that he would cite these gentlemen for contempt because of their presentalon of the fiartisan view of (he case to him In consideration of that motion. Judge Howell never did cite them for contempt And now the question Is, why? It has been claimed In behalf of Marshal Spry and Attorney-GenerBreeden, that Judge Howell lent for them and asked their opinion as to al Howell neglected to cite them for Bu if It to true, which contempt. heretofore we have refused to believe, then Judge Howell himself la the man who to In contempt of the public, of the dignity of hla court, and of himself aa Judge. It to a scandalous case as It stands, and rertalnly something should be done to put it on a proper basis. Judge Howell has refused to vindicate himself by the proper proceedings, and now It would seem the right thing for the people to vindicate hla court by ousting Mm from it, and putting on the bench a man who haa a proper idea of the rights, the dignity, and the Judicial requirements that ought to be present on that bench. HOW TO VOTE THE STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET, HARRIS AS A POLITICAL FLOPPER. o&ritrat1 ticket, and was defeated. In the late summer 'of 1904 he announced his allegiance o the Republican party, and the first political convention that he tended afer that ' announcement, he was a candidate for nomination for district attorney. In 1908 he waa nominated and elected by the Republicans for the office of county attorney. The Inquiry naturally arises, If defeated this time, will he go over to the Socialists or go Into the Independent League, or will he reform and become a rank Prohibitionists, or an "American?" No one, of course, could suggest that In the several political Jumps he was at all Influenced by a desire to obtain office.
