The faces of the men were well sunburned, and their uniforms appeared as if they had gone through genuine discipline. The boys express the greatest praise for the manner An which they were handled at the fort, all expressing the wish that they could have remained longer at the camp. The only thing they hope for now Is that they will sonn be able to stand up and fight for Uncle Bam as they have been taught the last week. Gutke, passenger director at the Union depot, who Insists that he has been done a great Injustice by the story. According to the Salt Lake paper's yarn. Mr. Gutke, who haa been railroading In Ogden for twelve years, slapped a newsboy because the latter attempted to violate the rules regarding the presence of newsboys In the waiting room. While he waa attacking the boy. the story said, a dog belonging to the youngsters bit Mr. Gutke. All this the well known passenger director denies The Incident occurred last Saturday, and he had led one of the boys to the exterior of the ill-w- ill station, when a companion of the newsboys set his dog upon Mr. Gutke. The animal chewed the passenger director's leg. Inflicted quite serious wounds and Mr. Gutke Immediately notified the police that the dog was running at large. One of the officers captured the canine Sunday and on Monday, the dog was put to death In the city stockade at tha .police station. Mr. Gutke claims that he made no effort to have any of the boys arrested and saya that the Herald's story was a grossly contorted affair. Judge Murphy asserts that he was never called upon to pronounce sentence on the offending dog and had heard robing of the case, until he read that he had sentenced the animal to death.
